Dru Joyce Classic: Point Guards
Throughout today, we will recap this past weekend’s Dru Joyce Classic by evaluating players by position.
More specifically, the players who weren’t written about yesterday. For the players who were evaluated yesterday, those articles will be linked to below their names.
Without further ado …
Jordan Jackson (2020), 6’2”, Brothers of Basketball / Lorain
Tahj Staveskie (2020), 5’7”, Rebels / Sandusky
Foremost, Staveskie told us that his brother (who share the same parents) stands at 6’4”. If Staveskie grows to be 6’4”, or even 6’2”, and maintains his skill level, D-I/D-II is very much in play.
Staveskie is highly skilled, as he consistently takes guys off the bounce with slippery crossovers. He shoots the ball at a high-percentage. Also, Staveskie makes excellent passes, often leading guys into wide-open shots.
Garvin Clarke (2020), 6’, Rebels / Euclid
Arthur Fayne (2020), 5’10”, TNBA East Fisher / Aurora
Fayne is a confident lead guard who gets most of his points going to the rim on straight line drives. Confidence is the key here for this young prospect, as he really carries himself like a leader out there. Fayne doesn’t shy away from contact. Real questions about his shooting. There’s room to grow, but we liked what we saw.
Davin Zeigler (2019), 6’2”, NEO Shooting Stars / Cleveland Benedictine
Miles “Deuce” McBride (2019), 6’1”, NEO Shooting Stars / Archbishop Moeller
Devin Hightower (2020), 6’, Rebels / Lakewood St. Edward
At first, we weren’t sure if Hightower was playing with full effort on Saturday. Then, it became obvious that he was just being patient with the ball. He let the game come to him, only striking when an opportunity presented itself within the offense. Hightower is really good just outside of the paint, as he can hit jumpers from there all day. Strong kid. Had his best performance against NEO SS, their most talented opponent.
Jace Vining (2020), 5’9”, Northwest Ohio Basketball Club / Crestview
This kid is tough. Vining is also quick to his spots, as he doesn’t waste time with the basketball — speaks to his intelligence on the court. Vining is aggressive with the outside shot, as it’s by far his best scoring option. Also impressed with how Vining dealt with on-ball pressure, hardly ever turning the ball over.
Muhammad Metz (2020), 5’8”, Queen City Prophets / Cincinnati Taft
Stock-riser.
