Updated 2018 Ohio Rankings: Southeast Ohio
Within Ohio, there are five regions, largely cast around heavily populated metropolitan areas. Toledo, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton/Cincinnati, and Southeast Ohio, all have their own basketball identities. The game is played differently in each state region, and the prospects of which they produce are, in turn, unique.
While there are certainly statewide trends in Ohio’s 2018 class, there are also regional trends. Don’t believe me? Just watch.
Southeast Ohio
The most glaring observation must be addressed first, there’s not a ton of Southeast Ohio players in the 2018 rankings. Specifically, there are 12 of them.
Enough of that though, let’s focus on the players who are here.
Foremost, there are two extremely solid big men, who are projecting as Division I players. The top overall center in 2018 is Dylan Swingle from Bainbridge Paint Valley (#7). At 6’10”, 290 pounds, Swingle is a mammoth of a young player. Swingle put up 40 points on multiple occasions last high school season. We expect him to have another productive summer and add to the offer sheet.
The other touted forward prospect from Southeast Ohio is Kollin Van Horn, who made an appearance in the Final Four with Proctorville Fairland. Van Horn, who stands 6’8”, is light on his feet and disruptive as a rim protector. Fairland’s Isaiah Howell and Keedrick Cunningham also made the list.
The two other schools with multiple prospects from the region are Zanesville (#46 Cameron Brooks-Harris and #122 Aronde Myers) and Chillicothe Unioto (#30 Logan Swackhammer, #57 Brandon Kennedy and #100 Peyton Hill). Watch out for all three of these teams, including Fairland, going into next winter.
