Recruiting Report: RJ Blakney (2019)
We’ve seen RJ Blakney twice with Team Melo already this spring, and he’s been impressive each time. The 6’5 sophomore is coming off a strong campaign with St. Maria Goretti, and is poised to translate his success onto the EYBL this spring and summer.

“Playmaker. Get steals,” said Blakney, a native of Baltimore, about his playing style. “Transition. Get out and make plays.”
Blakney says his confidence is probably the most improved part of his game over the last twelve months. He stopped thinking about his mistakes, and only focuses on the next play. His recruitment has picked up as a result, and he’s landed recent scholarship offers from Towson & St. Bonaventure while soliciting interest from Delaware among others.
“Just going out there and having fun.” said Blakney, who made the honor roll for all three quarters of this school year so far. “Getting back to having fun has been big for me.”
When considering college, Blakney says he wants to go to a school that fits his style of play. His mother was a star player at Maryland, and helped lead the Terps to four straight NCAA Tournament birth. What could Blakney bring to a college program?
“I can do everything. Make plays.”
