Recruiting report: Jaycob Payne (JUCO)
Jaycob Payne just completed his first year at Western Wyoming Community College. Things didn’t go as planned as he spent most of his time on the bench. After a solid career at Roy High School Payne expected to contribute at the college level. Payne is now looking for a new home for his sophomore year and has plenty of interest from colleges around the country.
Payne has official offers from North Iowa Area Community College and NAIA school Waldorf College. Talking with Payne he indicated a desire to play at the junior college level to see if he can play at the high D2 level. He also has heavy interest from Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon. Payne will be going on an official visit this weekend to meet with the coaches and see the campus. The College of Eastern Utah also has shown high interest in Payne and that could be a potential landing spot. After a rough year for Eastern Utah, they are looking to reload with players that are ready to step in and play.
Payne is a 6’5 player who can play four positions on the court. He has great court vision and prides himself on making the people around him better. If he has a good sophomore season I could see him playing at the D2 level or at a very good NAIA school. Talking to other college coaches Payne needs to improve his foot speed and his strength to play at a higher level.
Payne stressed to me that he wants to play at a college that he can make an immediate impact and also get exposure to 4-year coaches. He has high interest in North Iowa Area Community College and the College of Eastern Utah because of the level of play they are at. Both schools play in some of the best junior college conferences in the country.
