Recruiting Report: Darron Barnes (2017)
Darron Barnes, 6’6″, 230lbs, Wise HS, Upper Marlboro, MD, Class of 2017. Currently unsigned.
Darron Barnes is a very talented multi position player from Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, MD and is currently unsigned. Darron helped lead Wise HS to a 22-1 record, averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. His Pumas finished the year ranked #2 in team in the Washington, DC area according to the Washington Post. We have watched Darron 5 times this year and we are always impressed with his versatility and toughness. Two weeks ago Darron was awarded 2nd Team All Met by the Washington Post which is great honor.
He recently talked about his offensive skill-set. “Offensively I played 4 positions this season and my versatility is one of my strong-points. My most common position is Point Forward, but I have played WG, SF, PF and center. I use my strength to get to the rim and shoot pull ups by creating separation. Playing Bully Ball is one of my best styles of play.”
The video below is great example of Darron attacking the rim off the dribble and converting on tomahawk dunk.
This video shows Darron in the transition game.
Darron has an array of moves and skills he uses to score and he is by no means a Bully Player only. He has excellent maneuverability, great footwork and he can play with finesse.
“The Euro step is one of my favorite moves in addition to the a jab step. I can jab and go right or left for a mid range shot, a layup or a pass. I can shoot the 3 ball, but I am working this spring to improve it as well as my overall game.”
The video below was taken in Darron’s junior year at Wise HS and he displays his all around game.
Darron is an excellent re-bounder.” On the offensive glass I like to kick the ball out for outlet passes. I use my power and positioning on the glass and I can go coast to coast when I grab a rebound if that option is open.”
Defensively Darron is always up for a challenge. “I really like to play defense and I am a very good defender, but I am always working on my game on both sides of the ball. I always want to guard the opponents best player and I like to be challenged.”
Many High School players study NBA players and Darron says,”I try to pattern to my game after Draymond Green who plays for the Golden Sate Warriors. I like the fact that he can play 2 thru 5. Currently, I am 6’6″ and 230 pounds, but I will get down to 220 because I feel that is my best target weight.”
This spring and I will be playing AAU basketball and working out with Triple Threat Training. My Mother and my Coach at Wise HS, Rob Garner are great role models who mentor me. We will all sit down and discuss my options for College in the near future.”
Currently, Darron has offers from Towson State, Radford and Maine. However, Darron says ” I am strongly comnsidering enrolling at a Prep School next year”
Whatever college or Prep School Darron decides to attend, that school will have an excellent prospect. We will be monitoring Darron’s career and we think he will have a great one.
