Recruiting Report: Danny “DJ” Corbett (2017)
One of the top unsigned point guards in Ohio is still looking for a home as his senior year is winding down. Danny “DJ” Corbett (2017), a 6’0” floor general from Columbus Briggs, isn’t worried about making a decision by a certain date, but he knows that a decision is imminent.
“I don’t really feel pressure, I wouldn’t say that. But I feel like my time is, you know, coming up. So, I probably got to hurry up and make a decision,” Corbett said.
At the moment, his Shawnee State offer has been rescinded. Vincennes, a successful JUCO in Indiana, and Concord, which is a Division II program in West Virginia, are the schools currently most likely to land Corbett.
“Vincennes I like a lot. Concord, I like that option a lot,” Corbett said.
“Vincennes, they’ve always been highly ranked ever since my coach was in high school. So, I know it’s a really good program and I know they have one of their players going D-I.”
“Then Concord, I just like the fact of going D-II. They’re D-II. And I know they’re not a very good team, but I’m fine with that,” Corbett said.
Despite not having any offers currently on the table, Corbett told PHO that he “get[s] the feeling that one of them might offer.”
He also mentioned that there are other JUCOs interested in him, but we didn’t discuss any specific schools besides Concord and Vincennes.
As we’ve relented in previous articles, Corbett can bring a lot to a team from the point guard position. Everything we know about Corbett leads us to believe that he loves the game, and his play on the court is reflective of that.
Since we’ve seen him play last, Corbett says that the jumper has become much more consistent.
“My jump shot really, really improved. Every time I shoot the ball now, I feel like it’s going in. Confidence got a lot higher. I just feel like my jump shot got a lot, lot better,” Corbett said.
When we asked Corbett about what the next step in his development looked like, he gave a promising answer for potential suitors.
“The next step for me, is just get on a team, work hard, try to find the right college and go there. Work as hard as I can and provide as much as I can,” Corbett said.
