Grassroots preview: 3D Athletes
The 3D Athletes organization is new this year with several of the prospects coming from Team Griffin of a year ago. Auri Allen is coaching the talented group this grassroots season.
“Our goals this summer are simple,” said Coach Allen. “Get all of our kids into schools. We want them to improve not only their skill set on the floor but, their academics as well. Developing a good mindset for college and life after basketball.”
Several of the players for 3D Athletes are ranked inside the Prep Hoops Oklahoma top twenty of the 2018 prospect rankings. Coach Allen enjoys coaching this group for many different reasons.
“All these kids bring something different to the table,” said Coach Allen. “Some know others better than they know the rest but they all have bought in to our philosophy. It makes coaching a lot easier when players are on board with what your telling them. They are good kids and each of them have a story and a motivation to play this game at a high level. We are all still getting to know each other, but we all communicate well and in my opinion, that is what makes great teams.”
3D Athletes has nearly knocked off a trio of shoe programs at early events this year. They came within 5 points of RM5, Team Penny and Kansas Pray N’ Play. Get to know some of the top players on 3D Athletes.
Carson Meier 2018 Wing
Meier is a threat on the wing. When his three ball is dialed in it’s hard to guard him. The mid-range game of Meier and ability to drive the lane is a top notch. His athleticism makes it easy for him to get his shot off against bigger defenders. If he gets a good first step he will put it down.
Dalton Vinson 2018 Forward
Vinson can do a little bit of everything on the floor. He isn’t just a back to the basket big, Vinson can stretch the floor with his three and his raw athleticism allows him to run the floor and finish better than a lot of bigs. Vinson has low major potential.
Bryce Moreland 2018 Point Guard
Moreland at the Point Guard spot is a threat in transition. His ability to push the tempo, handle the ball and get into the paint is uncanny. He possesses the knowledge on how to be a great point guard from running the pick and roll to making good entry passes into the post.
Trey Palmer 2018 Wing
Palmer is a jack of all trades player. His versatility and willingness to do whatever it takes to win is a attitude that a lot of colleges need. He has improved immensely over the last year.
Tyler Street 2018 Combo Guard
Street is a deadeye from behind the three-point line. He can do a mix of things. He is one of the better under the radar players in Oklahoma. Street projects to the small college level.
Luke Major 2018 Forward
At 6’6 Major is one of the most versatile players in the Oklahoma 2018 class. He has the ability to not only handle the ball but knock it down from behind the three. He’s also a underrated shot blocker. Major projects to the high Division II level.
