Future Stars: All-Camp Team
MVP Noah Hart, 6’3 PG (Waukee)
His stock continues to rise, and he sure does thrive in these showcase evens (see last September’s Top 250 Expo). He’s a legit 6’3 and has learned to play the point guard position masterfully. No longer just a sharpshooter, Hart can slice and dice with the best of them; and in addition to rebounding well from the guard spot, was assisting at a high rate.
Hunter Strait, 6’2 G (Cedar Rapids Washington)
As smooth as they come, Strait has some of the tightest handles in Iowa — maybe the tightest — and he gets to the rim with ease where he is able to finish in a variety of ways. His 3-point shot has gotten much better over the past 12 months, and his vision and passing is also top-notch. He’s certainly a top point guard in the state.
Jake Hilmer, 5’10 PG (North Linn)
Predictably, Hilmer was not only one of the best point guards at the camp, but one of the best players, period. Even when he’s having an “off” game scoring the ball, he makes an impact in other ways, he’s the best at that. And he won’t stay “off” for long, Hilmer always gets his.
Trey Hutcheson, 6’5 G/F (Linn-Mar)
As soon as we walked into the Clarke University gym, Hutcheson stood out. We got there for the latter half of the skills segment, and this good-sized wing was dropping everything with a butter stoke at the shooting station. He’s fluid and smooth with his jumper, and it carried over to live game play. He looks like a Division I wing.
Keith Johnson, 6’4 SF (Hempstead)
We knew this guy would be on the list, and he was nothing less of his usual extraordinary self on Saturday. He was aggressively seeking the ball outside of the perimeter, and it looks as though his ball-handling has come a long way since last summer. His jumper was fluid and when he missed it wasn’t buy much. Also one of the best leapers at the camp (maybe the best), Johnson is truly one of Iowa’s most versatile threats.
Derek Krogmann, 6’6 PF (West Delaware)
If his team would have won the Top 20 game, then Krogmann would have been MVP of the camp. He was absolutely dominant nearly every time he stepped onto the floor, and his immense wing-span was his best tool today. There was not a lot of bigs at this event, so Krogmann wasn’t challenged too much, and he was dropping 30 or more with regularity during game play. In addition to having an uncanny ability to score around the rim, Krogmann was showcasing an ability to put the ball on the floor and even hit some jumpers today. He has one D1 offer right now, from North Dakota; he should pick up several more by summer’s end.
