Crutchfield Shines at Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff
For quite some time many have known Jalen Crutchfield as one of the better catch and shoot three-point shooters in the 2018 class in the state of Oklahoma. This weekend, Crutchfield turned his game up to another level we have not seen before. The Oklahoma Power 6’5 Wing featured strong drives to the rim with incredible finishes over tall, strong Post players. Over the year Crutchfield has been working to improve his ball handling skills and it was very evident this weekend.
Crutchfield found ways to impact the game outside of being a shooter from distance. The size of Crutchfield at 6’5 helped him rebound the ball well for a Guard. He does not have the quickest feet, which has led to struggling to stay in front of quick Guards over his career, but this weekend we also saw improvement on the defensive end in Crutchfield.
The Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff field featured several elite teams, which gave Crutchfield the opportunity to shine on a big stage against premier teams. So he wasn’t having a big weekend against lower level competition. Crutchfield took the basketball strong to the rim with a new found confidence.
Over the summer playing with Oklahoma Power on the Adidas Silver Circuit, Crutchfield will have a chance to prove himself just as he did this weekend. The live periods will be huge for Crutchfield to show his improvement to colleges. There is still room for improvement in Crutchfield’s game. This weekend was a great start to the year for Crutchfield and could be a sign of what is to come this summer.
Crutchfield was a great scoring option for the Oklahoma Power with his three-point shot, plus the addition of the drive to the hoop. Prep Hoops will keep a close eye on the development of Crutchfield over this summer.
