Top Performers – 12th Region Tournament Quarterfinals
The 12th Region Tournament kicked off their quarterfinal match-ups in Lincoln County, with games that saw each team ready battle.
The first game of the night on Wednesday pitted regional host Lincoln County against 12th Region blue-blood, Wayne County. Wayne County would knock off the “home team” 48-45. The final game of the night saw Mercer County take down Rockcastle County 72-62.
On the second night of quarterfinal play, top ranked Pulaski Southwestern lost to underdog Boyle County 73-76. Southwestern had defeated Boyle earlier in the season by 22. The nightcap game pitted Pulaski County against West Jessamine, with Pulaski County coming out on top 76-61.
12th Region Tournament Quarterfinals Top Perfomers
- Aubrey Weaver, Wayne County – Weaver led the Cardinals with 17 points, shooting 6-10 from the floor and grabbing 4 rebounds. Those numbers couldn’t have come at a better time, as the sophomore guard poured in 4 more points than his season average to help guide Wayne County to a 3 point victory.
- Peyton Gover, Southwestern – The crowned 12th Region player of the year fell short of picking up a regional tournament crown, but he fought and gave everything in had in trying to help wield his team to a victory. Southwestern lost to Boyle County, 73-76, but Gover scorched Boyle for 37 points and 6 assists.
- Jason Alexander, Boyle County – Alexander picked up the pace from his season average of 13 points per game, putting up 22 against Southwestern and grabbing 6 boards in the Rebels win.
- Trevon Faulkner, Mercer County – Mercer County defeated Rockcastle 72-62 behind Faulker’s 31 points. The junior guard is averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds this season.
- Treyvon Sylvester, Pulaski County – What a night against West Jessamine for the senior big man. 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sylvester helped the Maroons control the paint all night long, scoring around the rim and making the Colt defenders collapse, in-turn creating kick outs for shooters. Sylvester is averaging 16 points and 7 rebounds on the year.
