How Did They Get Here: Westmoore
Westmoore is headed to state for the first time since 1995 led by great passing and intense defense.
The Jaguars have cashed in on their young talent who has matured and grown in their roles. Westmoore has one of the best defenses in 6A led by Will Graham and Damoriea Vick.
Vick can literally guard all five positions due to his quick feet and appreciation for contact. Every star player Vick is assigned too has a rough day and is held below their season averages. Unfortunately, Vick is out the rest of the season with an ACL.
Westmoore has a 21-5 record because of their defensive versatility which is second to none due to their mass amount of long rangy defenders. Players like Trey Palmer has stepped it up offensively but his impact on defense is key.
Like Vick, Palmer can switch any screen and Westmoore dares you to attack the “mismatch.” Kenny Springs is usually all over the place on defense. His lengths allows him to get tips and deflections which lead to easy baskets.
Offensively, the Jaguars are led by point guard Will Graham who as fast as anyone with the ball in his hands. Graham single handedly took over the second half for Westmoore in the early round versus PC West.
Kody Gilliland is a lethal shooter who has supreme confidence in his jumper. The Jaguars offense all season has been based on great passing. They have the freedom to be creative on offense due to the passing of Vick, Palmer, and Graham.
Westmoore is no flash in the pan program, they have been slowly building towards this point. Their great defense and unselfishness has returned this program to relevance again.
