Taveion Hollingsworth fell short of leading Paul L. Dunbar to back-to-back Kentucky Sweet Sixteen appearences, but he can now add another title to go along with “2016 state champion”. It was announced at the Mr. and Miss Basketball banquet Tuesday night that Hollingsworth had earned the 2017 Mr. Basketball award, earning him the title of “Mr. Basketball”, forever etched in Kentucky high school lure.
Hollingsworth helped lead Dunbar to the state championship last year and a 33-6 overall record, averaging 21 points per game.
Just before the 2017 started, Hollingsworth committed to Rick Stansbury and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
This season, Taveion scorched the nets, averaging over 28 points per game and grabbing 7 rebounds. He also became the city of Lexington’s all-time leading scorer, scoring 2,495 career points.
In winning Mr. Basketball, he become the first player in Dunbar history to do so, and the first Lexington player to win the award since 1984.
