High School Look Back: Dylan James (Sheldon Clark)
His high school career may have come to an end earlier than he wanted it to, but Sheldon High School’s Dylan James can reminisce on an exceptional run throughout his four years of prep basketball. Although he was tasked with being the leader of his Cardinals team, James always gave his all and found a way to be one of his high school’s all-time best.
“Playing high school has been the time of my life,” James said. “It’s helped from growing from an 11-year-old sixth-grader getting his first taste of real basketball to where I am now. I’ve grown so much because of it. I’ve had a pretty successful career; I’ve won Region once, District three times, scored over 2,600 points, I’ve made the most three-pointers in KHSAA history and I’m ninth in KHSAA in rebounds for a career.”
James says he felt he and his team were really successful in 2016-17. On the campaign, James poured in 20.0 points per game while shooting a solid 42.5 percent from the field. James also grabbed 9.5 rebounds per contest for the Cardinals, who went 19-12 overall.
“Our team had a lot of success this past season,” James stated. “We were 19-12 (overall). My stats this year I averaged about 20 points and nine rebounds a game.”
As of now, James says he is still deciding what he would like to do following graduation. Will he continue his hoops career?
“Right now, I’m still weighing all my options,” James noted. “I have not committed to play anywhere yet.”
As James left a mark on the Sheldon Clark High School boys’ basketball program, he has a message for the athletes still playing at the prep level:
“I would want to tell them to enjoy it because it flies by and it will be over before you know it,” he added. “As for them to grow and get the best out of it, they just need to stay in the gym and work on their game – so they can compete at their highest level.”
