How Did They Get Here: Putnam City West
The defending 6A champions have had a difficult season but they are getting hot at the perfect time of the year.
Led by Gerren Jackson, Nick Robinson, George Price, and a plethora of young talent, PCW has found themselves back in the State tournament.
With a 15-10 record, you would think the Patriots would be down and out about their ability to win a championship. PCW had a tough stretch during the middle of the year where they loss seven out of ten games including losses to Choctaw, Del City, and Eisenhower.
However, PC West is confident because they have rode a hot streak to a championship before and most importantly Gerren Jackson is playing to his full capabilities.
Gerren Jackson was differing in certain moments during the season but he is now walking around with a swagger that his talent can live up too.
George Price is scorching from three point range and playing excellent defense. Nick Robinson has been a mismatch problem for most teams at the four spot due to his strength and explosiveness.
This is a young Patriot team filled with excellent freshmen and sophomores. Players like 2020 Rondel Walker has stepped and given PCW a threat from long distance. 2019 guard Zeph Smith has been a jult of energy off the bench by scoring and adding pressure defense.
PCW will play top ranked Tulsa Union and Marquis Gatewood will be key in a Patriot victory. Gatewood has made huge strides throughout the season and he is filling his role perfectly.
West had an up and down regular season but the Patriots are one of those teams you don’t want to see this time of year.
