Class 6A state tournament qualifiers
The Class 6A playoffs are winding down. On Friday night four teams punched their tickets to the state tournament in the Area Championship games. The field is nearly set. We will have the complete field Saturday night. Get a look at what teams are headed to state and how they won.
Edmond North (24-2)
Edmond North got a double digit victory over Edmond Santa Fe to advance on Friday night. The Huskies enter with just two losses on the season, Union at the Tournament of Champions and Norman North in the final regular season. Edmond North will be a tough team to beat in the Class 6A State Tournament with their complete team. Marques Wilson and Carlos Coppage at the 1 and 2 are a tough combination to guard. Marvin Johnson is extremely talented on the Wing with great athleticism. Harrison Stoddart is the forgotten player by many, but hurts so many teams from three-point range as they leave the Forward open. Edmond North will be the one seed on the West side of the bracket.
Union (26-0)
Union has remained unbeaten all season. The question as they enter the state tournament is can they finish the season undefeated? If Ethan Chargois and Adrian Rodriguez have anything to say about it then it will be a yes. The twin towers inside are both headed to Division I programs next year and for good reason. Chargois is a very skilled smooth 6’8 Forward. Rodriguez is the definition of hard work non-stop as a 6’6 Forward. Union enters as the one seed on the East side of the bracket.
Midwest City (23-3)
The Bombers are back to the state tournament in Class 6A after a two year absence. Keyshawn Embery has played fantastic all season long for Midwest City at the two guard spot. The supporting cast around Embery has stepped up over the last half of the season making the Bombers an even tough team. Derrick Walter Jr. is becoming a force on the offensive end adding the drive to the bucket with his smooth three-point shot. Jalen Redmond is bulling opponents in the paint at the Forward spot with his strength and quickness. The young guards of Midwest City have matured before our eyes and appear ready for a deep run at state. The Bombers will be the two seed on the east.
Westmoore (21-5)
Westmoore was labeled by Prep Hoops as the dark horse team entering the season to make the state tournament. The Jags have lived up to their billing with a victory over Putnam City North in the Area Championship game. Westmoore is led by a host of players, which makes them so tough. They don’t have one player that leads the way every night. Will Graham has been a consistent player at the Point Guard spot that the Jags have counted on. Trey Palmer has been a scoring Wing that has helped push Westmoore to the next level.
