Class 5A state tournament qualifiers
The Class 5A playoffs have seen a couple of surprises, but on Friday night the four teams who punched their tickets to state where no surprise. Get the teams who have officially made the state tournament, their seed and how they got to the state tournament.
Carl Albert (25-1)
The dominate duo of Mason Harrell and Trey Hopkins lead Carl Albert as they have all year to a win over Lawton Ike in the Area Championship game on Friday night. Carl Albert returns as the defending champions in Class 5a. The Titans are the one seed on the west side of the bracket in Class 5A. Harrell does a great job of creating offense at the Point, Hopkins has turned into one of the better scorers in Class 5A.
Tulsa Memorial (22-3)
Tulsa Memorial has dropped a couple of games they weren’t expected to, but in the playoffs Tulsa Memorial has been perfect. On Friday night Tulsa Memorial dispatched a good Del City team to make the state tournament. Tulsa Memorial is lead by their senior guard duo of Caleb Nero and Kobe Rose. Nero is more of a Point Guard that is excellent at creating offense off the bounce for himself and others. Rose is an electric guard who dominates in transition and on defense. Tulsa Memorial enters as the favorite to come out of their side of the bracket as the number 1 seed on the east side.
Claremore (24-2)
The Zebras have been the most “slept” on team all season in Class 5A, but on Friday night they continued to do what they have done all season with a victory over Collinsville. Jeffery Oxford had the led the way all season for Claremore at the two guard spot. Oxford is not a flashy player at the two. He just gets the job done with solid fundamentals and a good jump shot. Claremore enters as the two seed on the east.
El Reno (23-3)
The Indians led behind a great performance by Callen Haydon coasted to victory over Shawnee in the Area Championship game. El Reno has a great draw in the state tournament bracket as they were able to secure the two seed on the West side of the bracket. Haydon will be tough to stop for whichever team lands El Reno in a first round match up.
