Class 5A First Round Stock Risers
Catossa was the home of some great performances in the first round of the 5A state tournament. These players did everything they could to get their team to survive and advance.
Mason Harrell 2018 Carl Albert
Harrell was unstoppable the entire game against Northwest Classen. The 5’9 guard scored 27 points and 3 steals. NWC just didn’t have an answer for the shifty guard who can change direction at the drop of dime. Harrell will lead the Titans on Saturday vs. El Reno.
Jeff Oxford 2017 Claremore
Oxford is a knockdown shooter who hit big shots for the Zebras against Shawnee. Coming off screens, Oxford was automatic. He also used the threat of shot to drive and get to the free throw line. The senior guard finished with 20 points.
Callen Haydon 2017 El Reno
Haydon is one of those players who if they are hot then it is impossible to stop. He dropped 48 points on Del City to help his team advance to the next round.
Romeo Harvey 2017 Lawton Ike
Harvey scored the first 6 points for his team and was a big part of the near upset of Tulsa Memorial. Harvey finished with 14 points and played great defense on Kobe Rose and Caleb Nero of Memorial. In a classic first round game, Harvey was a leader and has nothing to be ashamed of and neither does his teammates.
Caleb Nero 2017 Tulsa Memorial
Nero controlled the first half with his aggressive offensive game but most importantly he made big plays down the stretch to help Memorial comeback and win in overtime over Ike. Nero finished with 17 points and rose his stock as one of the best players available in the 2017 class.
Kaleb Rose 2017 Tulsa Memorial
Rose had a slow start to this one but kept with and waited until his number was called to make a big play and he did. Rose hit a pull up jumper to give Memorial back the lead which they had trialed by 15 heading into the fourth quarter. Rose finished with 11 points which a majority came in the fourth quarter and overtime.
DeShawn Becton 2017 Lawton Ike
Becton was unassuming in the first half but he eventually came in and made clutch shots the entire second half. Memorial would make a run and Becton would find a way to hit an open three or pull up jumper to calm the storm. Unfortunately it would not be enough to fulfil the upset.
