Breakdown of Kentucky 2nd Team All-State
Prep Hoops Kentucky breaks down the Bluegrass State’s 2nd Team All-State selections, voted on by various coaches across Kentucky.
KENTUCKY 2nd TEAM ALL-STATE
Dontaie Allen, Pendleton County (2019) – Currently ranked as Prep Hoops Kentucky’s #1 prospect in the 2019 class, Allen had a phenomenal sophomore year, averaging 29.1 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. Allen has an offer from Northern Kentucky University and has taken unofficial visits to Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Xavier, Louisville, and Tennessee.
Cameron Carmical, Harlan County (2017) – The senior guard averaged 20 points per game and served as the Black Bears’ floor general throughout the season, helping lead Harlan County to the Kentucky state tournament. Harlan County finished the season 31-4.
Austin Combs, Knott County Central (2017) – The University of Pikeville commit guided the Patriots to a 22-10 overall record while averaging 19.6 points, shooting over 40% from 3-pt range.
Trevon Faulkner, Mercer County (2018) – Hands down a Division I prospect, Faulkner led Mercer County to a 25-8 overall record while averaging 24.2 points and 12 rebounds per game. The Titans were 46th District champions, eventually losing out to Pulaski County in the 12th Region final.
Peyton Gover, Southwestern (2017) – Gover lit up the 12th Region, leading the Warriors to a 24-6 overall record. At 5’8, college programs shouldn’t pay any attention to his size. Gover nearly averaged 30 points per game, having saw multiple defensive schemes thrown at him.
Luke Johnson, Lexington Catholic (2017) – Johnson led Lexington Catholic to the 11th Region final game before losing to Scott County. Previously, Catholic had been the only team that presided in the Bluegrass State to knock off the Cardinals in the regular season. Johnson averaged 20.9 points per game and will be playing his college ball at Loyola (Maryland).
Andrew Taylor, Corbin (2018) – Taylor is another surefire Division I prospect in that 2018 class, having just picked up an offer from Belmont out of the OVC. Taylor was very close to leading his Corbin squad to the Kentucky state tournament, losing a close game in their regional final. The junior guard averaged 29.5 points per game.
Damon Tobler, Perry County Central (2017) – The dunk of the year (that unfortunately didn’t count) came from Tobler at the Kentucky state tournament. Tobler is sure to find a home at the mid-to-low major level. His strength and athleticism is through he roof.
Chris Vogt, Graves County (2017) – 1st Region Player of the Year and Northern Kentucky commit, Vogt will go down as one of the best shot blockers in Kentucky high school basketball history.
Cole VonHandorf, Covington Catholic (2017) – VonHandorf is committed to D2 power Fairmont State, who just competed in the NCAA Division II national tournament. He averaged 17.6 points to end his senior career.
