5th Region POY and Other Top Region Performers
The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches (KABC) released their list of each regions player of the year at the end of February. The list covers all 16 regions of the state and PHKY has your recap of each one, as well as other top performers who stood out during the 2016-2017 Kentucky high school basketball season.
5th Region Player of the Year :
Tony Jackson, North Hardin (2017)
Coastal Carolina recruited Kentucky hard this season, picking up Jackson and Christian County’s Jaylen Sebree. Jackson led North Hardin to a 23-9 overall record, averaging 20.3 points and 6 rebounds per game. Jackson had led North Hardin on a 12 game winning streak before losing to John Hardin in the district championship by 3.
OTHER TOP REGION PERFORMERS:
Kel Stotts, Adair County (2017)
Stotts has committed to Lindsey Wilson College (NAIA) and is sure to make an impact there. Averaging 21.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, Stotts led Adair County to the region’s best record (32-2 overall, 22-1 region). There only loss in the region came at the hands of Taylor County in the regional championship game, keeping Adair from reaching the Kentucky state tournament.
Ezra Oliver, Taylor County (2017)
Oliver helped lead Taylor County back to the Kentucky state tournament this year, avearging 17.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds. Oliver will be attending Campbellsville University in the fall and participating in their bass fishing program.
TreVon Smith, Taylor County (2019)
Smith brings added depth to an already talented 2019 class in Kentucky. As a sophomore, Smith averaged just over 17 points per game and was the only Cardinal to score in the double-digits during Taylor County’s state tournament game. In Taylor County’s 1 point victory over region favorite Adair County in the regional final, Smith dropped 20 points, shooting 7-13 from the field and grabbing 9 boards.
Dylan Gaines, Taylor County (2017)
Having only been able to play 24 games during the season due to injury, the wing still had a valuable impact on Taylor County’s season. Gaines averaged 12.3 points and 5.6 rebounds this season. He has offers from Campbellsville University and University of Pikeville.
Kel Livers, Bardstown (2017)
Livers has committed to Campbellsville University (NAIA) and averaged 15.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, helping lead Bardstown to a 14-2 region record, 22-8 overall. Bardstown also won the 19th District championship.
