5A First Round Stock Riser: Callen Haydon
El Reno defeated Del City 74-49 but the biggest story was Callen Haydon’s 48 point performance.
In the first half, Haydon came out hot scoring 18 points in the first quarter shooting a perfect 3-3 from the three point line. Most importantly, he helped but Del City in a 24-4 hole that they could never crawl out of.
Haydon would only score four points in the second quarter but with double teams coming he began to find his shooters and big men around the rim.
After scoring 22 in the first half, Haydon came out hot again in the third quarter with 10 points and he began to let the building know what they were witnessing. Haydon has a big personality and his team feeds off of his confidence.
Del City began to show some fight in the fourth quarter and started to score consistently to get the score under 20 points for the first time all game. You could tell El Reno wasn’t happy with the way the where finishing the game.
Clearly, Haydon felt he needed but put together one more scoring barrage to put the game away. He would go on to score 16 points in the fourth quarter and put the game on ice. Traps, hard fouls, and even trash talk where not capable of stopping Haydon last night.
Haydon is currently one of the best available players in the 2017 class. In a sport where good offenses are winning big in college, Haydon would seem to be a high priority on a JUCO or DII’s recruiting board.
