At the point guard position, The Trojans have had some of the best in the state wear their uniform. Brandon Childress, is a freshman at Wake Forest playing a lot of minutes and a few years ago the floor-general was JaQuel Richmond who is now at UNC-Wilmington. Brendan Austin is the head man this season and we caught up with him this week.
Brendan AustinPrepHoopsNC: What’s it like playing for a former college star in Coach Gatlin?
Brendan Austin: It’s a really good experience. Getting the knowledge from someone who played the same position as you at a very high level is great. But he also has high expectations and pushes us to be the best we can be.
PrepHoopsNC: Putting on a Wesleyan uniform is pretty special, some great guards have came through those gyms, Quel, Childress, what does that mean to you?
Brendan Austin: It’s means that I have to continue to keep that legacy alive and be the best guard I can be. Quel and Brandon have given me great advice on leading a Wesleyan basketball team.
PrepHoopsNC: What colleges have you been hearing from?
Brendan Austin: I have heard from Anderson University, Lees McRae, Bridgewater, Hampden Sydney, William Peace.
PrepHoopsNC: What can you offer a college at the next level?
Brendan Austin: Leadership, winning mentality, defense, ability to make teammates better & also score, when the opportunity is available.
