Once Carl Albert got over a slow start they dominated Shawnee the rest of the way. With a little over four minutes remaining in the first quarter Carl Albert trailed 5-0 and had 5 fouls called against them to Shawnee’s 0.
The tables flipped when Mason Harrell got going at the Point Guard spot with a couple of steals and buckets in transition. Harrell’s success lead to Trey Hopkins starting to find his rhythm. It was lights out after that. Carl Albert ran away with the game winning 79-49.
MVP: Mason Harrell Carl Albert 2018 Point Guard
For those saying Harrell is to small, stop. He continues to prove each night out on the floor that he is one of the best floor generals in Oklahoma. The high basketball IQ Harrell possess make him such a key piece. The offense runs through the hands of Harrell as he orchestrates each play. He did a great job of sparking the initial run for the Titans. Harrell ended up with 27 points on the evening. Efficient is the best way to describe his night. Not to mention Harrell is a very good on-ball defender. He swiped several steals away on Monday night from Shawnee. Keep an eye on Harrel’s recruitment over the next year.
Offensive player of the game: Trey Hopkins Carl Albert 2018 Wing
Hopkins looked in rhythm on Monday night. He found a way to get his shot in traffic with creating space and as a catch and shoot guy from beyond the perimeter. The athleticism of Hopkins is what separates him from a long list of skilled two guards across the country. Hopkins will receive high major Division I interest from across the country before his recruitment ends because he has the size at 6’4, freak athleticism, a go getter mentality, works hard and a smooth jumper.
Under the radar player: Nathan Cook Carl Albert 2017 Post
At 6’6 in the paint Nathan Cook has been overlooked by many, but would make a great fit at the small college level. Cook fights inside for rebounds and positioning all night long. He doesn’t get the ball inside often, but when he does he has shown the ability to make some moves in the paint and score. NAIA D2 should give Cook a strong look at the next level.
Player with Heart: Carson Meier Shawnee 2018 Wing
Meier is a player to keep an eye on in the 2018 Oklahoma class. He is very skilled at scoring the basketball. At Shawnee Meier does not have a whole bunch of help, but is starting to gather how to handle the role of being the lead guy for a team in Class 5A. Meier shot the ball well from the floor on Monday night. He has a chance to really rise up the rankings in the 2018 Oklahoma Class. It will be interesting to see the development of Meier over next summer.
