And with the playoffs getting closer and closer, it is important that teams enter tournament play on a high note rather than the opposite. Here is the top 10 for the Cincinnati area for the week of February 5th:
- Moeller (18-0, 4-0), Previous Rank: 1 – The Crusaders wrapped up at least a share of the Greater Catholic League title with a 47-41 victory over rival La Salle on Friday. Might Moe held La Salle to 11 points in the 1st half and 34.9% shooting from the field for the game. Moeller will be the favorite their remaining games of the season and have an outstanding shot at an undefeated regular season.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 vs. Western Hills, 7:30pm; 2/10 vs. St. Xavier, 7:30pm
- Summit Country Day (18-0, 10-0), Previous Rank: 2 – Another undefeated week for the Silver Knights which included a good road win over Woodward. Summit has already clinched the Miami Valley Conference Scarlet Division title. Summit looks like they could be on their way to an undefeated regular season as well.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 at Clark Montessori, 7:30pm; 2/10 at CHCA, 7:30pm
- Oak Hills (15-3, 11-1), Previous Rank: 5 – With a 2-0 week the Highlanders finds themselves along atop the Greater Miami Conference. Friday’s game against newly 10th ranked Princeton is shaping up to be an important and entertaining game.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 vs. Colerain, 7:30pm; 2/10 at #10 Princeton, 7:30pm
- La Salle (15-3, 2-2), Previous Rank: 5 – Lancers are coming off of a 1-1 with the one loss being to #1 ranked Moeller. The loss granted the Lancers a tie at best for the conference championship. Coach Fleming team must find more offense before the start of tournament play as they rely heavily on guards CJ Fleming and Tre Crigler for offense.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 vs. Lebanon, 7:30pm; 2/10 at Elder, 7:30pm
- Hughes (15-3, 8-0), Previous Rank: 6 – With their 17 point victory over Taft on Friday, Big Red earns at least a share of the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference title. The win also gave Coach Wyant squad 13 straight wins, with their last loss coming December 13th. Hughes will be a very, very tough out in the Division II tournament.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/10 vs. Aiken, 7:30pm
- Mason (14-2, 10-2), Previous Rank: 4 – The Comets 6 point loss to 10th ranked Princeton on Friday dropped them to second in the GMC and they now need a little help to claim at least a share of the conference title.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 at Lakota East, 7:30pm; 2/10 vs. Lakota West, 7:30pm
- Taft (14-3, 6-2), Previous Rank: 7 – The Senators loss on Friday to Hughes put them 2 games back in the CMAC race. But the bigger issue is the injury to Chris’seon Stringer, the 11th ranked sophomore in Ohio. You have to be careful with knee injuries to prevent further damage, but one has to wonder if Stringer will be healthy for the playoffs. Without Stringer Taft is a totally different team offensively as he is there best slasher and finisher at the rim.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 at Centerville, 7:30pm; 2/10 vs. Shroder, 7:30pm
- Wyoming (17-1, 10-1), Previous Rank: 9 – The Cowboys went 2-0 with both wins coming by a combined 94 points! Yes you did read that right. Look for the Cowboys to win out in the regular season before the start of tournament play.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 vs. Finneytown, 7:30pm; 2/10 at Reading, 7:30pm
- Roger Bacon (14-4, 5-2), Previous Rank: 8 – The Spartans have 2 of their last 3 as there might be some reason for concern for Bacon. There is reason to wonder if the injury to Justin Johnson will be more of a factor for Bacon than first thought off. No word on when Johnson will return at the time this was written.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 at Purcell Marian, 7:30pm; 2/10 vs. Badin, 7:30pm
- Princeton (11-6, 7-5), Previous Rank: Unranked – The Vikings are the most dangerous team in the Cincinnati area. Coach Ellison team is 5-1 in Cincinnati since the debut of Ohio State commit Darius Bazley and this week alone knocked off 6th ranked Mason and former 10th ranked Lakota East.
Upcoming Schedule: 2/7 at Lakota West, 7:30pm; 2/10 vs. #3 Oak Hills, 7:30pm
