Dunbar in the first round of the 43rd District Tournament, the Eagles then preceded to take down rival private school Lexington Catholic and take home their first district crown in program history. Winning the district tournament also awarded the Eagles their first trip to the 11th Region tournament, and a chance to play at Rupp Arena in Kentucky’s Sweet Sixteen.
“The win was such an amazing feeling and really a cornerstone win for the LCA program,” said sophomore forward Kyle Rode (a top 2019 prospect). “I know it meant everything to our school and team!”
VS. PAUL L. DUNBAR
The Eagles were led by Rode and junior forward Carter Hendrickson in the first round game against Dunbar. Both tallied 23 points on the night, with Hendrickson owning the glass with 11 boards. Dunbar, led by Western Kentucky signee and Mr. Basketball candidate Tayeion Hollingsworth, would fall to LCA 64-68.
VS. LEXINGTON CATHOLIC
Facing Lexington Catholic in the district final, a school that has been a model for private school success in the city and around the state, Lexington Christian dominated the Knights to a final score of 58-36. Hendrickson would have yet another standout performance, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
Lexington Christian will face off against Madison Central Thursday, March 2nd at Eastern Kentucky University in the first round of the 11th Region Tournament. Expressing his feelings going forward, Rode added – “we feel like we’re a great team and can make a run at this whole thing – region and state. So we’re going to take it day by day and improve the best we can for every game here on out.”
