With the start of the post-season staring us in the face in Ohio, it is also time to start to think about the many awards that will be handed out for regular season play. That is why starting today and continuing over the upcoming days, I will give you my picks for all conference teams in the Cincinnati area. Today we will talk about the Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference, which has some of the best talent in the Cincinnati area. Congratulations to those who have been picked to the all-conference teams.
All CMAC Team:
Marcus Barton – Aiken
2016-17 Stats: 25.6 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 1.5 APG, 44.8% from the floor
While the Falcons have struggled all season, Marcus Barton showed that he is one of the premier players in Cincinnati. Barton led the conference in scoring all season despite being at the top of everyone’s scouting report. The 5’8 senior is in shooting range as soon as he walks in the gym and plays with a bulldog mentality. Marcus this year had 3 games with 30 or more points and also racked up 42 points against Cincinnati College Prep on January 25th.
Giovanni Santiago – Hughes
2016-17 Stats: 14.6 PPG, 4 RPG, 6.1 APG
I heard a lot about Santiago before his January debut and all the hype was definitely warranted. After sitting out the first 10 games due to OHSAA transfer rules, Santiago showed that he is one of the better point guards in the city. While Giovanni does play with a certain style and flair, he makes sure that he does so in a fashion that does not hurt his team. This was evident by his assist-to-turnover ratio which sits at a little over 2-1 at the time this article was written. The 6’0 junior also showed that he can knock down shots with shooting percentages of 46% from the floor, 36% from three and 94% from the line.
Malek Green – Taft
2016-17 Stats: 21.8 PPG, 13.7 RPG, 4 BPG, 63.4% Field Goal Percentage
This young man should change his name to Double-Double because that what he does, gets double doubles. One of the best rebounders in the city, Green’s 13.7 per game not only leads the conference but also leads the conference. Green is one of the best running bigs in the city and has shown a much improved outside shot. The 6’5 senior is currently receiving interest on the low-major D-I/D-II level.
Corry Long – Hughes
2016-17 Stats: 19.1 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 5.1 APG
Should be the odds on favorite for conference POY as he is the best player on the best team in the conference. Long hit 3 buzzer beating shots this season that helped Big Red push their win streak to 15 games and counting. The Stony Brook commit also was the MVP of the Hilton Sandestin Beach Basketball Blowout in Florida back in December. Corry’s name has to be at the top of the list when talking about the most clutch players in Ohio.
Terry Durham – Woodward
2016-17 Stats: 17 PPG, 11 RPG, 3 APG
Durham established his self as one of the best players in the conference in his first year competing in the CMAC. The Smooth Lefty as he is known at Woodward showed that there is much more to his game than being physical and dominating the paint. The 6’3 junior showed some good perimeter skills throughout the season while also showing a high basketball IQ and good passing skills. I expect Durham to have a big summer on the grassroots circuit.
