Continue ReadingThe Class 6A East Area bracket features some of the best games we might see for the 2016-2017 high school season in Oklahoma. Below we breakdown the best game, predictions of each game and the four teams that will make the state tournament out of the bracket on the east side.
Best Game: Midwest City vs Norman North
This one is not event close for several reasons. First off it is a top five matchup, the only top five matchup out of all the area final games in Class 6A. Second, the matchup of Trae Young and Keyshawn Embery will be an extremely fun one to see. Every player in Oklahoma is chasing the level of player Young has become over his four years at Norman North. Embery is not to Young’s level, but is the second best guard in the state of Oklahoma. Anytime #1 vs #2 guard in Oklahoma face off it is destined to be a fun game. Young is ranked nationally in the top 15, while Embery is just outside the top 100 in several publications. This game should feature some fun offense and hopefully a matchup late in the game with Young and Embery guarding each other. Many have hoped this game would happen and thankfully the playoffs have provided us with a fantastic game. The only way these two teams would play each other again would be in the championship game of the state tournament.
Three players to Watch
Trae Young Norman North 2017 Point Guard (Oklahoma Commit)
As his high school career winds down their will be limited times to see him play in a Norman North uniform. The east side of the state will get a rare chance to see him show his scoring talents at Tulsa Memorial. Young is a special player to watch.
Keyshawn Embery 2018 Midwest City Combo Guard
Embery is a rising national prospect who has turned in an impressive junior campaign at Midwest City. The Bombers have not been to the state tournament the past two years. The will to win for Embery should be fun to watch. He is a combo guard that plays both ends of the floor.
Ethan Chargois 2017 Union Forward (Signed SMU)
Chargois has gone under the radar when it comes to media attention at times over his career, but his talents are unquestioned. He is the best player on the east side of the state. This year Chargois has been big time rebounding the basketball to go along with his great scoring output.
Predictions
Games at Bixby
Union vs Booker T. Washington
Booker T. Washington has a lot of talent with four players that feature Division I offers, but they have been so up and down this season. Union is the complete opposite they are the definition of consistent. Chargois and Adrian Rodriguez lead Union to victory over Booker T. Washington. It might be double-digits if Booker T. Washington doesn’t show up.
Consolation: Sand Springs vs Sapulpa
These two teams have played once this season with Sand Springs losing at home in a close one to Sapulpa. This time around I think Sand Springs gets Sapulpa in a good spot and finds a way to pull out a win behind Colt Savage and Kyle Keener. Julian Smith and Keenan Ballance will be a tough duo for Sand Springs to stop. Sand Springs move on.
Consolation Championship: Booker T. Washington vs Sand Springs
This matchup will be interesting. The talent level on the floor heavily favors Booker T. Washington with RJ Fuqua, Bryce Thompson, Seth Hurd and Jaycson Bereal all holding Division I offers. The last time I saw Booker T. Washington they lost by 32 on the road at Midwest City. With that said it’s tough to pick Booker T. in a close game, but they have to much talent not to. Booker T. Washington finds a way to make it back to state.
Games at Tulsa Memorial
Norman North vs Midwest City
Norman North and Midwest City should be a fun game. I broke down some of the game earlier. This one comes down to the supporting cast. Derrick Walter Jr, Jalen Redmond and Josh Rivers will be to much for Norman North’s 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best players. Midwest City knocks off Norman North to clinch a spot in the state tournament.
Consolation: Owasso vs Broken Arrow
Broken Arrow is immensely talented with Caleb Huffman leading the way at the Point Guard spot. Tony Hall is an underrated Wing to keep an eye on in this one as well. Owasso just does things the right way. They are very well coached. This one comes down late in the game give me the Tigers of Broken Arrow to win.
Consolation Championship: Broken Arrow vs Norman North
This one won’t be easy for who ever loses in the Midwest City vs Norman North game. The Timberwolves find a way to win behind the talents of Trae Young.
