MVP: Chris Braggs PCN
Chris Braggs was a clear mismatch problem for Westmoore from the beginning of the game. Braggs is an agile forward who has a knack for putting the ball in the basket.
He was automatic from the mid-range area which opened up the rest of his offense. He also has a great feel for drawing charges for the Panthers and getting the ball back for his team.
Braggs leads one of the best supporting casts in the state for PCN. Iyaye and Micah Thomas are the stars but PCN will reach their goals because of Braggs, Blake Owens, and others.
Best Offensive Performance: Adokiye Iyaye PCN
Iyaye made some key momentum baskets throughout the game. Iyaye got two break away dunks and a few layups that were key to a Panther’s win.
He had a slow first half but he came out hot in the second half. PCN got key contributions from Thomas and Braggs but Iyaye came up with big buckets to seal the deal.
Best defensive performance: Damoriea Vick Westmoore
Vick may be the best on ball defender in the state. His matchup with Iyaye was fascinating in the first half. Vick was able to deny Iyaye from getting the ball much in the first half and he also got a steal as well.
Vick didn’t guard Iyaye as much in the second half but he eliminated all ball screens because of his ability to switch and guard any position.
Best guard: Micah Thomas PCN
Thomas dominated the first half with outstanding point guard play. Thomas got into the lane with ease and created a basket.
He used his ability to shoot to get the defender to press up and that is when he would put his head down and get into the paint.
The 2019 guard struggled in the second half with the press but his first half production was key in giving PCN a lead.
Best rebounder: Trey Palmer Westmoore
Palmer is a long forward who did his part on the glass. There were a lot of rebounds to go around due to so many missed shots from both sides. Palmer is Mr. Versatility for the Jaguars and rebounding was a big part of his contribution.
Best player off the bench: Kenny Springs Westmoore
Springs was an effective defender on Thomas in the second half. Whenever he was involved in the press something good happened for the Jaguars. Springs is one of the better players off the bench in 6A and he understands his role.
Westmoore looking forward: Shooting and offense
The Jaguars struggled to score if Will Graham wasn’t getting penetration. Kody Gilliland struggled to hit open shots as well did others. Westmoore will need everyone to step up their shooting for them to reach their goals.
PCN: Role players will be the key
Putnam City North has one of the best collection of role players in 6A. PCN will be tough to beat when Braggs and Owens are playing well.
Thomas and Iyaye lead the Panthers but they will go as far as their talented core will take them.
