At 6’2″, 158 lbs., the Shaker Heights junior is very agile and plays solid in transition. As a pass-first guard, Bonner plays an unselfish style of ball.
In the Nature Coast Christmas Tournament in Brooksville, Fla. last week, he put his skills on display throughout. Bonner added a 12-point performance in a win over Armwood to claim third place in Bracket B.
He had this to say about his team’s season thus far.
“The season is going pretty well,” Bonner said. “We’ve had some tough loses but my teammates and I play our hearts out. I think the nature coast tournament was filled with a ton of talent.”
Bonner labeled himself a combo guard.
“I can get to the rim anytime I want,” he said. “I’m aiming to work on my jump shot getting it more consistent. One thing we improved on as a team is playing hard every game.”
He has been playing for OBC (The Ohio Basketball Club) and coach Dan Urban since the 5th grade. This past summer, Bonner and his group won the national champions in Las Vegas.
Bonner holds one offer currently from Division-II Northwood. As his jumper improves and his team makes more appearances in tournaments around the country, plenty more attention will come Bonner’s way. This kid can stretch the floor, open up a ton for his team and he has a noticeably high basketball IQ.
