What also seems to be a guarantee is that every season there will be some players who excel past expectations and surprise analysts of the area with their new-found rapid growth in game play. Here is a look at a few prospects from the area who have done just that and impressed many with their level of play this year:
Landon Martin – The Africentric guard scores around 20ppg on a quality team who’s roster contains several other good threats as well. A sleeper to most rankings that has consistently worked on his craft despite the lack of personal attention received. By the looks of this season so far, Landon is far from finished displaying his talents across Ohio.
Shaylin Waugh – A Harvest Prep guard who is also scoring around the 20ppg area on a winning team. Coming from a family of basketball players, Waugh is used to not gaining the spotlight, but this never waivered his work ethic. The fruits of that labor are now making themselves available for picking and it seems Shaylin has chosen to eat as of late. Expect more as the young man leads his team into tournament play.
Colin Woodside – Many wondered if the big junior post player would even play basketball this season due to his ascension in recruiting on the gridiron. Not only is Mr. Woodside playing, but he’s playing well and with passion. Scoring between 15-20ppg and grabbing double digit rebounds for a big winner this season has shown his competitive nature and dedication to team sports all while being a Division 1 Football recruit.
Dominiq Penn – The consensus around Central Ohio was that Scoonie Penn had a son who may actually start varsity for powerhouse Dublin Coffman and Head coach Jaime Collins as a freshman. What wasn’t said by many was that Dominiq Penn would come into his own and score 15ppg along with several other impressive stats and percentages. The numbers don’t even tell the whole story with the mastermind’s mental understanding of the game. Not only does Central Ohio have to watch out for this young man, not only does the entire State of Ohio need to bear witness, but our newly-led Nation needs to be aware of this point guard and his stellar play and bright future.
