Continue ReadingThe Putnam City Invitational features some of the best teams in Oklahoma this weekend. Tournament play was halted due to the weather on Friday, but games were back in action on Saturday with two great semifinal games taking place. Union, Heritage Hall, Putnam City West and Putnam City North were all winners in the opening round to set up great semifinal games. Get the players who have stood out over the first two rounds below.
Greg Thomas Putnam City West 2018 Guard
Thomas is a 5’9 stocky guard with a great feel for the game. He shot the ball lights out for the Patriots from the three-point line. He is very shifty which allows him to get around defenders to the rim. Thomas plays solid defense and gives Putnam City West great minutes.
Nick Robinson Putnam City West 2017 Forward
Robinson is going to be a Division I football player, but he has been so clutch on the basketball court for four years. Robinson has been getting big minutes since his freshman season. This year Robinson is what ever the Patriots need on that given day. Robinson has played great defense blocking shots left and right. He also has done a great job of getting to the rim.
George Price Putnam City West 2017 Guard
Price is one of the most under the radar guards in the 2017 Oklahoma Class. He does a great job with the ball in his hands of creating offense for himself and others. Price is a big time small college prospect. Several colleges were on hand to get an up close look at Price. He definitely helped his stock this weekend.
Gerren Jackson Putnam City West 2017 Guard
Jackson is one of the best unsigned prospects in Oklahoma. He creates offense off the bounce at the Point Guard spot. Jackson is quick at 6’2 with a high basketball IQ that propels him to another level. Division II programs are in heavy pursuit of Jackson’s talent. Jackson is a true two way player with the skills to be a game changer at the next level.
Ethan Chargois Union 2017 Forward (SMU Signee)
Chargois is such a key cog for the Union Redskins. When he is going with energy on the floor he is hard to stop, there may not be an Oklahoma prospect that can slow him down when he is going full tilt. The size of Chargois at 6’8 plus the handles, athleticism and touch on his shot make him a load to handle.
Adrian Rodriguez Union 2017 Forward (UTSA Signee)
A year from now there will be college programs wondering why they did not give Rodriguez more of a look. Yes, Rodriguez is just 6’6 in the paint, but his work ethic, toughness and quickness make up for any lack of height. Rodriguez has been a monster on the offensive glass turning second chances into points for Union.
N’Kiel Jamerson Union 2017 Guard
Jamerson is a great change of pace for Union at the guard spot. With the absence of Union’s Point Guard Jamerson does a great job of at times handling the Point duties and also playing off the ball at the two guard spot. Jamerson does a great job of scoring the ball at the rim. He knows his role and plays it well for Union.
Adokiye Iyaye Putnam City North 2018 Guard
Iyaye is not a flashy player, which sparks questions for some. However, anyone who knows the game of basketball can look at Iyaye’s game knows he is a special talent. Simply put, Iyaye gets the job done. He is a great slasher to the basket and finisher around the rim. One underrated part of his game is his three-point shot. Iyaye plays both ends of the floor well. He did all he could in the semifinal game for Putnam City North. Iyaye holds a couple Division I offers with more soon to be on the way with how he has played.
Micah Thomas Putnam City North 2019 Guard
Thomas is an undersized guard with a great handle and feel fro the game. He moves well without the ball, which helps his teammates to get him the ball in open spots. Thomas plays like a two guard for North, but with his size and quickness don’t be surprised if he is a Point at the next level. Thomas has shot the ball lights out over the first two rounds.
Chris Braggs Putnam City North 2018 Forward
Braggs is one of the best role players in the state of Oklahoma. He does the small things on the court that are not always glamorous, but go a long way in helping his team pick up victories. Braggs has been great on the boards on both ends of the floor throughout the PCI. He has really stepped up his game around the basket finishing well. Braggs will be a great get for a small college in the 2018 Oklahoma class.
Blake Owens Putnam City North 2018 Forward
At 6’7 Owens has been a difference maker for Putnam City North in the paint this season. He gives North a shot blocker in the paint as well as a great rebounding presence. Division II, JUCO programs will fall in love with the 2018 Forward’s game. Owens has continued to improve each year on the floor. The size, consistent play, toughness, hustle and upside Owens has makes him a prospect to keep a close eye on.
Nate Pendaruis OKC Storm 2018 Point Guard
Pendaruis put on an aerial assault on the rim at the Putnam City Invitational. He did a great job running the offense for the OKC Storm getting guys in the right spots. He is a long Point Guard standing around 6’3 with great hops and change of pace. One area Pendaruis has to improve to get to another level it is his jump shot. Keep an eye on how Pendaruis improves over this next summer. He could be a good small college get for someone.
Luke Major OKC Storm 2018 Forward
Major gives a team good size at 6’7 with really great touch. He is not a four man per say as he has started to play more on the Wing. He has a chance to really draw some High Division II attention to Low Major Division I attention over the next year. Major played with MOKAN ELITE 16U last year on the EYBL Circuit, which has benefited his game heavily. You can tell Major has started to hit another gear.
Jon Matthews Heritage Hall 2018 Point Guard
Matthews is a 5’9 tough as nails Point Guard with fantastic speed. He uses his speed and shiftiness to reek havoc on opponents. Matthews has a great handle with vision that will surprise opponents. The knack Matthews has to get the ball into tight windows is very impressive. He is getting heavy Division II interest. If Matthews ends up at the Division II level he has the talent to really change a program over four years. The ability Matthews his to run the show at the Point is incredible.
Les Thomas Heritage Hall 2017 Wing
6’5 on the Wing with a deadly shot from three-point range has Thomas on the board of many Division II programs. Thomas is also receiving JUCO looks as well. The size, strength and scoring skills of Thomas have colleges giving him a hard look. Thomas could be a steal in the 2017 Class.
Sayvon Milton Heritage Hall 2017 Wing
Milton is a long, lanky, tall sharp shooter from distance for Heritage Hall. Small colleges should give Milton a strong look with his scoring talents. It is not often in Oklahoma to find the length and height of a player on the Wing like Milton. He has score the ball well for the Chargers through the first two rounds.
Ben Jenkins Putnam City 2017 Post
Jenkins is an undersized Post player at 6’6 for Putnam City. He has done a good job of finishing around the rim for Putnam City. They feed him the ball regularly in the paint calling on Jenkins to be a large part of the offense. The one thing programs question on Jenkins is his motor. He is receiving heavy NAIA Division II looks and has a NCAA Division II offer on the table as well.
Quantrell Jackson Mustang 2017 Wing
Jackson scored the ball well for Mustang from the Wing at 6’4. Over his career at Mustang Jackson has primarily been a role player for the Broncos. This year with the loss of so many key players Jackson is the go to player for Mustang. He has accepted his role and performed well throughout the first half of the season. Jackson could be a great get for a small college in the region.
