Friday!
Eden Prairie at Edina. Winner stays close to Wayzata. This is a 50-50 game, could go either way. Likely to go to the wire, we stick with the home team by a score. Walt McGory vs Owen Chose, Anders Nelson vs Kyler Kluge. Good stuff.
Lake City at Zumbrota-Mazeppa. The Cougars were at one point 9-1 but they’ve lost four of five. Is tonight they get back on track? Not against Lake City. Next week things get better though!
Mankato West at Mankato East. The first game was a one point score. Scarlets have lost four of six and haven’t played well against the Big Nine’s best. East is really struggling losing six of their last seven and they’ve also lost to the Big Nine’s best. This will be close but West evens it out in another one score game.
New Prague at Waconia. Trojans head north and face the improving Wildcats. Waconia is going to get a big win soon, but we feel they lose by eight tonight.
North St. Paul at Tartan. Huge game within the same district, Polars have won eight straight while Tartan has just the one loss. This is the first game since last year’s section final. The energy will be outstanding. My gut says Tartan by five but not much confidence in this pick.
Orono at Delano. Both teams are top five level teams. Both teams have faced difficult schedules. Both are three loss teams. Both have recently lost two games. Delano has the home edge but this game is going to be so close and no team really has a big edge coming in. I say it’s a slugfest and one team wins 61-60. Who? I don’t know, I’ll go with Orono.
Park Center at Maple Grove. The Pirates pushed Champlin as much as anybody all year. Can they do it to the Crimson? I would say maybe but remember, the Pirates beat Maple Grove earlier in the year. The Crimson will want to avenge that loss and they do it by nine points.
Totino-Grace at Osseo. Orioles win at home by three scores after winning on a buzzer beater two weeks ago. I think tonight Osseo gets a better shooting game from Zach Theisen and things get real physical so Rocky has to spend some time on the bench with fouls.
Border Battle
Apple Valley vs Riverside. Riverside has talent that will be tough for the Eagle shooters to hit over the top of, but Tre Jones will be the difference as AV gets the home win.
Lakeville North vs La Crosse Central. Central won’t have a guy to stop Nathan Reuvers in the post and that will be the issue. Slowing down Kale and King won’t be easy but North is one of Minnesota’s better teams. Panthers win.
DeLaSalle vs Kaukuana. Islanders are facing a .500 team, pretty much likely to be a blowout.
CDH vs SPASH. One of Wisconsin’s historically best teams against one of Minnesota’s hotter teams at the moment. CDH is good and has better athletes but SPASH has more veterans and is one of the state’s best coached teams so they win.
Tartan vs Whitefish Bay. The Titans beat Whitefish Bay, who is two games above .500 but I think the game will be about a four score game. Tartan has a huge game tonight so their focus will be there.
Columbus Catholic vs Springfield. Springfield has been playing really well but CC is undefeated and making a push for the top spot. We give the road team the nod.
Minnehaha Academy vs Prescott. The Redhawks are talented and very good, but because they have so much youth you aren’t always quite sure what you will get. Minnehaha will have a talent edge but Prescott will be older. Tough call, Redhawks is our answer.
Minnesota over Wisconsin 5-2.
