This year the field of teams at the Tournament of Champions features the best field we have seen in quite some time. The teams competing include: Edmond North, Union, Midwest City, Tulsa Memorial, Tulsa Central, Heritage Hall, Tahlequah Sequoyah, and Fort Cobb-Broxton.
7 of the 8 teams are currently ranked inside the top five of their respective class. We begin our preview of the Tournament of Champions with Players to Watch on each team.
Edmond North
Marques Wilson 2017 Combo Guard (Signed to Lehigh)
Wilson is a sniper with the ball in his hands. He is great as a catch and shoot player, but certainly has the ability to create offense off the dribble. Wilson has a college ready body, which will serve him well next year at Lehigh. He is currently ranked as the 5th overall prospect in the Oklahoma 2017 Class.
Marvin Johnson 2017 Wing
Johnson is a great athlete at 6’5 on the Wing. He dominates at getting to the basket and finishing in traffic. He has a chance after a couple of years of JUCO to go to a Division I program. Coach Evans has done a great job getting him acclimated to the system at Edmond North.
Midwest City
Keyshawn Embery 2018 Combo Guard
Embery is an electric player, who might end up as the best player in the field of eight teams this year the Tournament of Champions. The stage is set for Embery to prove to the East side of the state the caliber of player he is. Through the early part of the season Embery has dominated the competition. Embery stands at 6’3 with a great handle, good athleticism and an improved jump shot that has made him even tougher to guard.
Derrick Walter Jr. 2018 Wing
Walter has a chance to be the surprise player of the Oklahoma 2018 Class. The long, lanky look of Walter at 6’5 coupled with his deadly jump shot make him a perfect sleeper. Walter has taken his game up a notch this season. The Bombers need him to be the second scorer behind Embery.
Union
Ethan Chargois 2017 Forward (Signed to SMU)
Chargois will be the highest ranked player in the 2017 Oklahoma Class that is in the tournament field this year. He has great size at 6’8 and is very skilled. Chargois can stretch the floor with a smooth jumper or bang with bigs in the paint for bully buckets. He signed with SMU along with fellow Tulsa standout Elijah Landrum.
Adrian Rodriguez 2017 Forward (Signed to UTSA)
Rodriguez is one of the most under the radar players in Oklahoma regardless of class. Many people don’t realize the skills and intangibles he brings to the table. Rodriguez is one of the best rebounders in the state despite he is only 6’6. He has a nice low post game with the skills to step out and knock down the mid-range jumper consistently.
Tulsa Memorial
Caleb Nero 2017 Combo Guard
Nero has been overlooked by many Division I programs, but that is starting to change as he continues to prove himself at the Point Guard spot for Tulsa Memorial. He is a good scoring guard with a great change in pace making him tougher to guard. He can score in all three phases of the game. Nero is receiving interest from several Low major Division I programs.
Kobe Rose 2017 Shooting Guard (Signed to Connors State)
Kobe RoseRose will be a name for Division I programs to remember. In his time at Tulsa Memorial Rose has improved each year. This year he has taken huge strides in his game turning from a player that was a good defender with an average offensive game to a force on both ends of the floor. Rose has signed with Connors State.
Tulsa Central
Elijah Landrum 2017 Combo Guard
Landrum is arguably the player that enters with the chance to be the most exciting for what he brings to the table. He has highlight dunks, three-point range from deep and some nice handles to complete his game. Landrum has a chance to showcase his skills starting in round one against a stout opponent.

Davon Richardson 2020 Guard
He is sort of a throwback player. He isn’t very flashy but effective. His size at 6’3 makes a huge difference along with his ability to play multiple positions also helps him standout. Richardson has a chance to develop into a special prospect if he continues to improve. He has come up big for Tulsa Central in several games already this season.
Heritage Hall
Les Thomas 2017 Wing
Thomas is a sharp shooter from the wing that can rise over most defenders to get off his jump shot at 6’4. He has continued to improve his skills each year at Heritage Hall. Over his high school career Thomas has proven to be a reliable go to player for the Chargers.
Jon Matthews 2018 Point Guard
Matthews is an undersized Point Guard with so much game. He has crazy handles and great vision, which make him a special playmaker for Heritage Hall. Matthews is known as a player that can distribute the ball to his teammates and set them up well with his great vision, but it should also be noted he has the ability to put the ball through the hoop as well. Matthews could be one of the more surprises to people who have not seen him play.
Tahlequah Sequoyah
Tyeus Daughtery 2017 Guard
Daughtery is one of the best shooters that not many know in the state of Oklahoma. He can flat out shoot the ball with a smooth stroke. Daughtery is mainly a catch and shoot guard from the Wing. However, over his high school career he has added the ability to drive the basketball.
Elan Eagle 2017 Guard
Eagle teamed up with Daughtery make a splash brothers type of duo for Tahlequah Sequoyah. He has a sharp shot, but does a great job of mixing it up offensively to catch opponents off guard. Tahlequah Sequoyah has their hands full with a talented field, but if Eagle and Daughtery play to the best of their ability they will have the Indians right in the mix.
Fort Cobb-Broxton
Cameron Hines 2017 Point Guard (Signed East Central University)
Hines got his college decision out of the way early signing with East Central. He is a multi-sport athlete that quite frankly just doesn’t lose very often. Hines is a good shooter, but is most known for his ability to open up shots for teammates, and show off his great vision.
Kellen Hines 2019 Guard
Hines is a sharp shooter that has a little more height than his older brother. He has a good upside to his game that will be interesting to watch to see how he improves over his high school career. Last year Hines was a vital piece to Fort Cobb-Broxton in their championship run.
