MVP: Payton Bradley PC West
In a game where Gerren Jackson and George Price struggled from the field, Bradley’s versatile game was key in the Patriots coming out with the win. Bradley only finished with 8 points but they were timely answer baskets which halted a comeback from PCO.
Bradley’s defense is the strength of his game and he displayed his skills while guarding all five positions at some point or another.
Best offensive performance: Jaylen Gotcher PCO
Gotcher was the best player on the court which is saying a lot when you have the likes of Gerren Jackson and George Price on the floor. The 6’6 forward was automatic from long distance and he showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and create space for his smooth jumper.
Gotcher had an impressive putback dunk in the 4th which was apart of a key run for the Pirates . Gotcher finished with 16 points and showed how much of a mismatch problem he can be when he taps into his immense potential.
Best defensive performance: Jaylen Gotcher PCO
Gotcher was an intimidating factor for PCW all game as he blocked 4 shots. His rejections were impressive as he swatted the opponents shot attempts into the stands. The 2017 forward also did a great job on the defensive glass as well.
Best under-the-radar performance: Tre Carolina PCO
The Pirates have a bright future with Carolina at the helm. Carolina is a dynamic young guard who is strong with the basketball and he knows how to find his teammates. The talented 2019 guard finished with 12 points and got to show off his ability against PCW pressure all game.
Best guard performance: Gerren Jackson PC West
Even though Jackson didn’t dominate by scoring the ball, he was the most talented guard in the game. Jackson finished with 12 points which was mostly in transition.
There may not be better guard in the state in the fast break. He facilitated to teammates and made key steals and deflections in the 4th quarter to change the game.
Best post performance: Payton Bradley PC West
Bradley is only 6’1 but out of necessity he has to play the post position for the Patriots. Bradley did a great job of putting pressure on the opposing big man by driving hard to the basket.
The senior leader of the team also held his own in the rebounding category. Bradley has great feet defensively and he showed that while putting on full court pressure on Jaylen Gotcher.
Storyline to look forward too: PCW continual improvement/Rise of Jaylen Gotcher
PC West is extremely young as they only have only three seniors. They are loaded with young talent specifically at the guard positon. West has had its bumps early but be aware of the Patriots once playoffs begin lead by Jackson, Robinson, and Bradley.
For PCO, Jaylen Gotcher is blossoming into a star. Gotcher has played well so far this season against some of the best teams in 6A. Gotcher is a mismatch at 6’6 for most posts as he can shoot from deep with the best of them and he is also a good athlete.. PCO must have Ben Jenkins and Owen Atkinson step up when they are on the floor for this team to reach it’s full potential.
