Continue ReadingThe Douglass Trojans defeated the Millwood Falcons in a convincing fashion Friday night. The Trojans lead the entire game from start to finish. The overall depth of the Trojans and Coryon Mason was too much for Millwood which resulted in a 65-51 loss.
MVP: Coryon Mason (Douglass)
Mason had a dominant performance as he slashed to the basket for easy layups. Mason finished with 21 points and other then free throws none of his buckets came outside the paint. Mason is possibly the best player in 3A and he showed that Friday night.
Best offensive performance: Coryon Mason (Douglass)
Mason was a man among boys Friday night. Rather he went right or left, bodies bounced off of Mason’s physical frame as he slashed to the basket. He led all scorers with 21 points and he did it in an efficient way.

Best defensive performance: Desmond Lewis (Millwood)
Lewis was the only Falcon who could stand up physically with Coryon Mason. Lewis sacrificed his body and he was able to draw a few charges for his team.
Best Passer: Tre Edwards (Douglass)
Tre Edwards struggled to find a rhythm early but as the game went on he began to find Mason and open shooters. Edwards is extremely shifty and he used that to get into the teeth of the Millwood zone to set up his teammates and it led to a win.
Best post player: Desmond Lewis (Millwood)
Desmond Lewis is the main reason why it didn’t get ugly early for the Falcons. Lewis used his physicality to pound the Trojans inside. Lewis dominated the boards especially on the offensive end. He didn’t take a shot outside of the paint but Lewis knows who he is which is rare for young post players.
Best player off the bench: Jessie Wilson (Douglass)
Wilson was an immediate spark off the bench for Douglass. He stepped in and quickly knocked down an open three and also hit a difficult and-1 layup.
Wilson was also instant energy on the defensive end as well as he lead the Trojan press for majority of the game. Wilson is a starter on most teams in 3A but he has found a role for Douglass that fits and could lead to another championship run.
Best shooter: Isaiah Williams (Millwood)
Isaiah Williams is an energetic shooter who came through for the Falcons throughout the game. Standing at 6’3, Williams was active on both ends of the floor but he thrived behind the three point line.
Best story going forward: Is Coryon Mason the best player in 3A?
Mason is one of the more difficult matchups in the state. He is the best drivers at in any level in the state. It will be interesting to see if Mason can take the mantle as the best player in his class. If he is able to do so, the Trojans will add another gold ball to the collection.
