But it’s not just his nearly 30 points per game on sterling shooting that he credits for his recruitment starting to pick up, but his one summer with Iowa Mavericks helped dramatically too, he said.
“Before I played Iowa Mavericks I had no college interest, and once I started playing I had U of D (Dubuque) reach out to me and Loras, and after that I had colleges all over Iowa and Illinois reaching out to me,” said Moeller.
“I know Augustana (IL), North Central and Illinois Wesleyan like me a lot. And then the Iowa Conference, all of those schools like me a lot. And more recently I’ve had St. Ambrose and William Penn reach out to me.”
With all this interest should come options, and Moeller has already starting weighing those D3 vs. NAIA pros and cons.
“I’ve definitely been tossing around my college options. I know it will be a very difficult decision, and I know money can be involved, and I’m trying to not think about that as much. I’m more so wanting to find a college that just fits me perfectly,” said Moeller.
“I don’t want to be deciding purely off of money and my parents support that decision. And in the next three to four months as basketball comes to an end, I’m hoping to be deciding what college I want to go to.”
In the meantime, Moeller has a chance to be the state’s leading scorer this season, and he’s doing it with some rather efficient shooting percentages.
It’s not just scoring though, Moeller is the do-it-all guy for the Irish.
“For my high school I really do a lot of everything. I bring the ball up the court, so I’m the point guard, and I’m also one of best defenders and guard the other team’s best player a lot of the time. I’m lengthy, so that helps with on-ball defense,” said Moeller.
His primary focus this season though, is becoming the best leader he can be.
“My sophomore and junior year I led the team in scoring, but I wasn’t really a verbal leader, I just kind of went with the flow,” said Moeller. “But this year I’ve dedicated myself to being more of a leader in practice, and developing some of the younger kids.”
