There’s one area Division II program that has been particularly interested in the junior floor general, and several other programs are at the very least aware of him.
“The only school that has really been looking at me really hard right now is Wayne State, I’ve been on two unofficial visits there. They really like my game and they like how I run the floor” said Jones.
“I’ve been getting letters from Ferris State, Detroit, IUPUI, and a couple letters from Ball State. But the only school I’ve really been talking to is Wayne State.”
Small in stature, Jones is aware that being 5’6 can be a deterrent to college coaches. But he’s fully confident in his abilities as a player.
“Right not I think the only thing that’s hurting me is my size. But I’m hoping to get a couple D1 scholarships and I feel like I could compete at a MAC (Mid-American Conference) school,” said Jones. “But anything I get blessed with I’m going to take, because regardless of the division, college basketball is college basketball.”
One of the Michigan’s quicker guards, Jones identified that as a strength of his, and defined the rest of his game to PHMI
“A lot of people say I’m undersized, but they really like like my quickness and my ability to draw defenders and kick the ball out,” he said. “And then court awareness and being a true leader and getting everybody involved is what I’m best at.”
Jones started some last season as a sophomore, but mostly came off the bench for the Trojans. This season his role is much-increased.
“My role this year is to knock down open shots, be the best defender on the court and make the other point guard turn the ball over. Last year I was more looking to pass every time I got the ball, and this year I’m in attack mode,” said Jones.
“My main goal is to get a state championship because I feel like we have the team to do that. And if I had to pick a personal goal it would be to pick up an offer by the end of the year.”
