Montague says missing his critical 17U season was detrimental to his recruitment, but he still has some late Division I and Division II interest coming in.
“No new interest, I think if I would have played AAU I would have. But my first game of the season Wright State and Miami of Ohio were at the game. And then Urbana came to one after that. And I went on a visit to Malone University,” said Montague.
“And I think if I played AAU, a couple (programs) would have offered me.”
He elaborated on the Urbana interest.
“I did talk to Urbana after the game, and their coach told me he really liked what he saw. And also that he’ll be watching, and I should come down for a visit soon.”
The 6-foot point guard also mentioned Akron came to watch him at an open gym.
He’s just hoping for any offer at this point of his career.
“Hopefully some schools offer me so I can get to college for free,” he said. “What I really want is D1, but if a D2 school offers I’d be good with that too.”
Though he was sidelined for a considerable amount of time earlier this year, he was able to make some gains during the process.
“Since therapy I’ve noticed I’m way more athletic and way stronger, just because I was literally just lifting and going to workouts,” said Montague.
Now, well into his senior season with the Eagles, Montague is is back into the swing of things, and leading his team as best he can.
“I just need to lead way more this season. I need to lead and step up and then score a little bit more. And if I’m getting double-teamed I’ll need to find my teammates,” he said.
“I just want to get back to state. Nothing else really matters to me, just get back to state.”
