Last season as a freshman he came off the bench — and started some — for an Indianola squad that won just six games.
Gauger averaged 5.0 points as a freshman, and went into his 15U summer with All Iowa Attack and played very well.
Some very initial recruitment is starting to trickle in for the Indians standout.
“I’ve been invited to two elite camps, and the Central coach has emailed and talked to me about watching me play some more and how they like me. But other than that not really too much recruitment,” said Gauger.
“I’m hoping to pick up some offers or to get looked at some more. I’m definitely hoping to get recruited some more soon. And my dad is doing some stuff for me to to get me out there, videos and all that kind of stuff so coaches can see me.”
Gauger went from freshman contributor to sophomore team-leader in a hurry, and he’s still adjusting to that role in the early goings of this season.
“Coming into this year I knew that my team would need a scorer, and I knew I’d have to be the one to put the ball in the hoop. So all summer I worked on different ways to get the ball in the hoop,” said Gauger.
Look for him to post some big numbers not only this year, but the next three years in Indianola.
“When I came in here I knew that I needed to score a lot more. And last year I wasn’t a designated scorer or anything like that, but this year is definitely different. I’m one of the role-models on the team, it’s almost like I’m a senior this year.”
