“I can play good on defense and offense,” Washington said. “I’m good at nailing my right hook shots and knocking down the mid-range jump shots. I believe with just some more skill work, my game could become way more effective in every position. I believe I have the potential to be a guard.”
Washington says he and his teammates have gotten off to a bit off a rough start on the season, but are trying to get over the hump.
“It started out good, but for the past two games it has went down completely,” Washington stated. “I’m having mental problems and thinking about a lot of my failures and mistakes and it’s pillingup in my head which has been affecting me. I’m trying to get my mind right, though. The team as a whole has been struggling on learning how to play as a team and not individually. We have to all get on the same page, which today (Dec. 12) in practice I think we got better at.”
In the classroom at the high school, Washington says he is a hard worker.
“Right now, I have A’s and B’s, which is how I have been performing since the beginning of this year,” Washington noted. “My GPA is a 3.3 and I work hard to the max.”
Although he hasn’t received any direct offers yet or been shown any interest yet, Washington says that college coaches and programs should start to reach out because he battles.
“I think it (my game) should catch colleges’ eyes and programs’ eyes because I don’t give up on the people who are there for me,” Washington added. “I make sure when I get the special blessing opportunity to be great, I push it to the limit and give the maximum effort. I never give up no matter how hard it is or how hard it gets. I might get down or depressed mentally, but i pray and ask God to help me learn from my mistakes.
“I’m gonna give any coach the effort and respect – and I will fight ’till the whistle blows.”
