We had a great July, where we finished in Florida – I was really playing my best ball of the summer there,” said Lauf. Three games into the young high school season, Lauf is averaging 27 points per game, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. In his last game he tallied up a 38 point performance, knocking down a total of 8 3’s.
During the off-season, Lauf worked on getting stronger in the weight room. “Getting stronger will help me in every aspect of the game. I also worked on my range. I feel comfortable pulling up from just about anywhere.”
Lauf’s is a combo guard who is capable of assisting teammates, or getting a much needed basket. “My game is a mix between Steve Nash, Russell Westbrook, and Allen Iverson,” said Lauf. “I can really push the ball and attack the rim. But I also shoot the 3 very well. I feel like I have a unique passing ability and I an put pressure on the ball defensively. I’m also capable of creating my own shot.”
As of today, Lauf has two scholarship offers from Urbana University (NCAA Division II) and Lourdes University (NAIA). “I have some interest from mid-major DI’s, to NAIA.” When asked what he was looking for in a place to further his education and basketball career, Lauf stated, “I’m looking for a smaller campus with an education major. I also want to play under a coaching staff I feel really comfortable with and relate well with. Most importantly, a place I feel comfortable calling home.”
Before he heads off to the next level, Lauf still hopes to accomplish more on the high school hardwood. “My goal this season is to win state. That’s the whole reason why we play the game, is to win it all. My other goal is to win another district championship.”
