Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops Oklahoma crew is in Oklahoma City for the second week of the year for one of the best rivalry games in the state, Putnam City North AT Putnam City West. Several player match ups are very intriguing between the two top ten squads. Prep Hoops answers the tough questions below.
Can Adokiye Iyaye step up and lead Putnam City North?
Moments like tonight will be huge for Iyaye to prove he can be the leader of the Panthers. Tonight will be possibly the most heated rivalry that Iyaye has ever played in, which for some brings out their best. Iyaye is a skilled combo guard that is a true two way player. Tonight North will need Iyaye in three facets of the game, offense, defense and leadership.
Who are the high profile names to follow?
This game will feature several huge name to follow on both teams. At Putnam City West Gerren Jackson will lead the way at the Point with help from young talented guard Rondel Walker. Putnam City North has one of the best young duo’s in the state with Adokiye Iyaye and Micah Thomas. Lookout Oklahoma, Iyaye and Thomas could turn into a lethal combination over the next two years.
Who will be the X-Factors?
Putnam City West has several talented guards who could make huge differences in the game. Prep Hoops looks at George Price as the X-Factor for the Patriots. Price can light the scoreboard up with his scoring talents. A great game from Price tonight could be just what the Patriots need to defeat their rival. Putnam City North has a nice duo in Adokiye Iyaye and Micah Thomas, but those two will not be the X-Factor for the Panthers. Blake Owens inside has the chance to change the outlook of the game with his 6’7 frame.
How good is Putnam City West Freshman Guard Rondel Walker?
Walker is a player that has popped up in the 2020 Oklahoma Class as a player to keep close tabs on over his high school career. The match up against Putnam City North will provide Walker a chance for a breakout game on a huge stage. Coach Bert does a great job of preparing his players for moments like tonight. Could we get a taste of the high potential Walker has over his career tonight?
What does a win mean?
Respect from the coaches poll for both teams. A win for Putnam City West would give them a top ten victory over a Class 6A opponent. For some reason the coaches poll has shown a lack of respect for the Patriots who are the defending champions and only lost two players from a year ago. Jackson and company are ready to make a statement tonight. For Putnam City North the story is similar, the Panthers want respect. Currently North sits at #9 in the coaches poll, which is very under rated. North is loaded with talent and tonight a win would earn them respect.
