The Outlet: Top Dunkers in Oklahoma
The Outlet is a weekly column that focuses on a specific topic around the state of Oklahoma.
Rather it is a tomahawk, between the legs, 360 windmill, dunking is an art form that some kids master at a young age. There are five players around the state of who at any moment can “catch a body” as the kids say.
Who is the best dunker in 6A?
Jaycson Bereal of Booker T. Washington is a coach’s dream athletically. The 6’7 forward has a vast array of dunks at his disposal. He can do the between the legs and much more.
What makes Bereal such a great dunker is that he is also a game dunker. If Bereal is on the floor, the opposition needs to have their head on a swivel otherwise they will become another one of his many highlights.
Who is the best dunker in 5A?
Trey Hopkins of Carl Albert is a freak athlete who has become a stud overall player. Hopkins is the best game dunker in 5A by far. You cannot let Hopkins get a fast break dunk at home because the building will go crazy.
Hopkins is a Division I recruit but he is also a player who most would put their money on in a state-wide dunk contest. Hopkins showed on the Under Armour circuit playing with Oklahoma PWP that he can take his bounce around the country.
Who is an underrated dunker at the guard position in Oklahoma?
Vernon Turner of Yukon is the best athlete in the state overall. The OU commit is a track star who has set the state record for the long jump. Turner has taken that historic athleticism to the court and he is dunking on his opponents on a weekly basis.
This past week against Norman, Turner was on a fast break and in a Manu-Ginobli like move he put the ball behind his back to avoid a defender and then rose up to slam it home with the right hand.
Just a sample he had 2 more in this game alone. @PrepHoopsOK @YukonHighSchool @KyleSalomon87 @Vernon_3 #dunkoftheweek? #IsThereAnyQuestion? pic.twitter.com/iPUmrzQfrx

Who is an underrated dunker at the forward position?
DeAngelo Adkins of Edmond Santa Fe is a wiry 6’6 forward who “caught a body” in his first game versus Edmond Memorial.
Adkins is a quick twitch type of athlete who can get off the floor with ease and he showed that as he threw down a nasty left handed dunk during Edlam. The senior forward is going to blow over the season with his play but he is definitely one too watch when he gets the ball around the rim.

Who is the best dunker in the 2017 class?
Marvin Johnson from Edmond North has already made himself right at home above the rim this season. Johnson is an exciting athlete who is apart of a talented Husky team in which he is able to get a lot of opportunities in the open floor to show off his athletic ability.
The 6’5 forward is great at catching the ball and getting down hill quickly. With his size and wingspan, Johnson is able to punish the rim in an extraordinar fashion and North fans are just fine with that.
