This week our topic will be over the top sleepers in the 2017 and who will breakout and receive more attention.
Who is the best 2017 point guard who is flying under-the-radar?
Omar Boone of Casady High is flying under-the-radar for some reason or another. Boone is a pass-first point guard who has a great feel for playmaking. Boone can also score when needed with a consistent midrange jumper.
The 6′ point guard has a good body and has played against the best completion while playing for Nike EYBL Team Griffin this summer. No reason that Boone should not be getting more attention from Division II’s around the region.
Who is the best wing under-the-radar?
Carlos Slaughter of Harrah has transformed himself into an effective perimeter player. Rightfully so, Brady Manek gets a lot of the attention for Harrah but Slaughter is a good athlete who can hit shots from 15’ft on out and plays with a motor.
At 6’4, Slaughter has the ability to guard 2-5 in 4A which is a huge asset. He had an impressive showing at Prep Hoops’ Top 250 Expos and it looks as though he will have a quality senior year as well.
Who is the best big man flying under-the-radar?
Logan O’Neal of Bethany is a quality big man who is a tough cover for anybody in 4A. You can immediately tell if a post is comfortable on the block or not. Either they are comfortable and take their time or the house is on fire and they rush their shot.
O’Neal is calm, cool, and collected down low and has good footwork as well. Rather its the drop step or a simple right hand hook, O’Neal has a good feel for angles and he take whatever the defender gives him. The 6’7 senior will have a big year for Bethany and will gain more exposure.
Who is the best tweener in the 2017 class flying under the radar?
Jaylen Gotcher of Putnam City is an impressive prospect. Right now, Gotcher is considered a tweener because he hasn’t found his exact position yet which is fine. A tweener is a player who is caught between two positions.
For example, Gotcher is 6’5 and can shoot the ball from three really well. He also is an excellent rebounder. He has all the athletic ability to play the wing in college but he must improve his ability to drive to the basket. Tweener used to be a negative term but it has become a positive asset to your team offensively and especially defensively.
Gotcher has all the skills to become PCO’s best player by the end of the season. Division II should pay attention to Gotcher and his senior season.
Who is the best athlete under-the-radar?
DeAngelo Adkins of Edmond Santa Fe had a monster game versus bitter rival Edmond Memorial. Adkins put on a show with his spectacular athletic ability and motor.
The 6’6 forward may have sown up the Dunk of the Year with a monster left handed throw down that changed the momentum of the game. Adkins is long and wiry wing who can be disruptive defender on the perimeter but he can also protect the rim. Adkins is an intriguing prospect who literally blew up over night.
