Continue ReadingDouglass won Class 4A a season ago. Flash forward to this year, the Trojans have moved down to Class 3A. On Tuesday night Douglass battled rival Centennial, which matched up the top two teams in Class 3A according to the coaches poll.
Douglass led for the majority of the game with control 33-22 at the half. In the second half Marcus Alexander and Quinton Johnson took over for Centennial. Alexander was instrumental in the success of Centennial with strong drives to the basket. Johnson is one of the most under the radar wings in Oklahoma. NAIA programs would love the length of Johnson along with his athleticism. He has been getting interest from several Division II programs in Oklahoma recently.
The loss for Douglass brings up cause for concern. It is very early in the season and is a rivalry game, but the road to the Class 3A state championship will not be an easy one. Centennial proved on Tuesday night that they are the real deal.
