Prospect Spotlight: Dylan Blake (2020) *Free*
Dylan Blake | First Flight HS | 5’10” PG | Class of 2020
Strengths: Shooting, Ball-Handling, Intangibles
Areas of Improvement: Size, Experience
Firstly, Dylan Blake is an excellent point guard prospect to keep an eye out for in the future. What stands out immediately about Dylan is his shooting ability. Whether it’s mid-range or from downtown, he’s exceptional shooting the ball. His shooting ability was on full display as an 8th grader, most notably in a contest that saw him light it up for 35 points after burying 9 three-pointers in the game. Could very well finish the season among state leaders in 3 pointers made as a freshman. He’s not just firing it up with reckless abandon either. Dylan converts at a very solid clip, despite shooting in bulk. Has a very quick release whether off the catch or off the dribble.
Blake is also a slick ball-handler that can attack you going to either hand and his court vision is well above average. Keeps defenders in guessing mode. However, at times he can be susceptible to being trapped, leading to jump passes and wild turnovers. A few film sessions, time in the weight room and attention to detail should clean that aspect of his game up some. Defensively, despite giving up size, he annoys ball handlers and has very active hands. Plays passing lanes fairly well and gets several deflections nightly.
Dylan has all of the makings of a special point guard prospect in the 2020 graduating class. His shot, court vision and ball-handling ability should take him far. He’s a prospect that should be followed closely and should undoubtedly score a ton of points, rack up assists, bury tons of 3’s and garner plenty of attention during his HS career. This is only the beginning for the exciting freshman point guard at First Flight HS.
