This dynamic, play-making point guard averaged 17.4 PPG, 5.4 APG, and 3.3 RPG as a junior. Blackburn shot 38% from behind the arc and 80% from the free throw line. As a result, was named 2nd Team All 10th Region in 2016.
The senior posses premier ball handling skills that are essential to excel at his position. He keeps defenders consistently off balance with his innate ability to change speeds and direction. Making him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.
However, Blackburn’s court vision and basketball IQ might be the most notable traits of his game. I spent some time talking with Bourbon County’s head coach Nick Sosby, who had loads of praise for his star player.
When asked to describe his game, Sosby said, “Very high basketball IQ, has a great understanding of the game, sees things develop before I do sometimes. {Has a} D1 point guard mentality.”
Sosby also added, “Ameryon enjoys making plays for his teammates and always tells them, have your hands up and I’ll find you.” Additionally, he “Impacts the game in so many different ways.”
Coach Sosby concluded with very high remarks for his ability to shoot off the dribble. “He’s the best that I’ve seen in the state. And “prepared to have a huge senior year and will open eyes.”
PHKY had the opportunity to speak with Ameryon about his focus areas this offseason. He replied, “Taking initiative to become a better defensive player, talking and being the leader on the defensive end of the floor.” Furthermore, working to become a better finisher around the rim and working to perfect his mid range game.
To date, Blackburn hasn’t seen any significant interest from college coaches. Nonetheless, coaches will sure be calling before season’s end.
