Oklahoma 2016 Signing Day
Signing day finished yesterday with several Oklahoma prospects inking their names on National Letters of Intent. Prep Hoops Oklahoma breaks down each prospect and what they bring to the table.
Manek Inks with Oklahoma
The second rated prospect in Oklahoma inked his name with the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday. Manek is a 6’9 Forward with sneaky athleticism and a smooth outside jump shot. He will fit perfectly in the Sooners system as a player that can stretch the floor with his shooting talents. This year Manek will be the leader of the Harrah Panthers, which should be intriguing to see how he does with the weight of the team upon his shoulders. Manek is coming off a great summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit.
Chargois and Landrum join forces at SMU
Ethan Chargois and Elijah Landrum both signed with SMU on Wednesday, which makes four Oklahoma prospects to sign with SMU in the past three recruiting classes. The Mustangs are getting a Forward in Chargois that can play the four or be a small ball five. Chargois has the skills to stretch the floor with a nice jumper.
Landrum is one of the most underrated guards in the nation. A large reason is because Landrum stands around 5’10, but don’t be surprised when we look back and think SMU got a steal. He had a terrific summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit with MOKAN Elite. In the Peach Jam semifinals and championship game Landrum came up big off the bench. He will be a vital player for SMU at the Point Guard spot with his scoring talents. Landrum is a high riser with elite athleticism.
Wilson is headed to Lehigh
The fifth ranked prospect in Oklahoma, Marques Wilson signed with Lehigh on Wednesday. Wilson is a combo guard that has moved primary to the shooting guard position with his elite shooting talents. He proved he could play with the elites this summer on the Nike EYBL Circuit. One thing that separates Wilson is his college ready body. Look for Wilson to have an instant impact at Lehigh.
Rodriguez signs with UTSA
Adrian Rodriguez was a secret heading into the summer, but that changed when he dominated the boards on the Under Armour Circuit. At the conclusion of the Under Armour regular season he was in the top ten in rebounding, which is very impressive considering he stands at 6’6 facing players as tall as 7’3. He works extremely hard, which will fit in in perfect to the new culture at UTSA.
Martin makes Jacksonville State official
Cameron Martin hurt his knee towards the end of last season, halting many of the schools recruiting the 6’9 Forward. Over his high school career Martin has dominated bigs. He has a chance to play right away at Jacksonville State if he can stay healthy. Martin looks more explosive than he ever has coming off his injury. This year Martin has moved back to Yukon making the Millers a true state tournament contender.
Stoddart picks Oklahoma Baptist
Harrison Stoddart surprised some picking Oklahoma Baptist a day before signing day. He inked with the Bison giving the Oklahoma Baptist basketball program one of the best classes so far of any Oklahoma Division II. Stoddart is a player that can stretch the floor with great shooting ability from deep.
Thompson inks with Oklahoma Baptist
Brantly Thompson has improved immensely in many areas over the past year. This season he will look to lead Tuttle back to the state tournament after they came up just short a year ago. Thompson made his dream to play basketball at the next level a reality signing with Oklahoma Baptist.
Hines signs with East Central
East Central has been one of the best if not the best Oklahoma Division II program in recent years. They got better on Wednesday inking Cameron Hines of Fort Cobb-Broxton. Hines is a very smart Point Guard with a great presence of leadership on and off the court. He works very hard, has a nasty crossover and the ability to get his teammates open looks.
Keener inks with UCO
Kyle Keener made his commitment to Central Oklahoma official with pen and paper on Wednesday. He will provide Central Oklahoma a great post presence with the ability to get minutes as a freshman. Keener has tons of upside to his game and could turn into one of the better posts players in the MIAA by the time his senior year roles around.
Connors State inks two in-state recruits
Kobe Rose out of Tulsa Memorial and Marvin Lowe at Tulsa Central signed with Connors State this week. Rose is a guard that has the chance to be special at the two. Over his two year time period at Connors State if Rose works hard he will turn into a Division I recruit. Lowe is very raw at 6’6 in the paint. Over his time at Tulsa Central Lowe has improved steadily.
Childs makes Eastern a reality
Kalen Childs signed with Eastern JUCO this week. Many people overlook Childs contributions at Tulsa Central, but the defense he brings to the table is vital to the Chargers success on the court. Childs will raise his recruitment level in his time at Eastern.
