11th REGION
STATE CONTENDER: Dunbar (43rd District)
Dunbar is in prime condition to make another run at a state tournament championship. They return star Mr. Basketball front runner Taveion Hollingsworth who averaged just under 22 points per game last season. They also return senior big man Dontell Brown who is almost automatic in the paint. Scot Chalk’s Bulldog’s also brought home the state AAU title this past summer. Their only loss? Other potential 11th region contender Scott County.
NEXT TO CONTEND:
Scott County, you can never count them out. Regional runner-up last season, the Cardinals return possibly one of the most experienced teams in the region. Among those returning is sophomore star Michael Moreno who averaged 14 points and over 10 rebounds last season. The 6’6 forward is one of the most rounded players in the state and a high major D-I player. Scott County also returns junior Cooper Rubb who averaged just over 10 ppg.
Lexington Catholic has talent. Senior Luke Johnson returns his 20+ ppg. Luke committed to D-I Loyola (Maryland) this summer. The Knights also have 6’5 junior forward Zan Payne who averaged a double-double last season.
Lexington Christian returns sophomore wing Kyle Rode who is seeing major D-I interest. Nate Vaelntine’s Eagles will look to improve off their 18-13 record last season. Rode averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds last year.
