Conference: Coastal 10 1A
Last Season: 15-11 (11-7 in conference)
Outlook: Ocracoke has improved substantially over the past few years. Typically, Ocracoke is a relatively small high school with an enrollment under 60 total students. They have gotten better and better each season and were able to have one of the best seasons in years past this previous year. Make no mistake about it, Ocracoke will be a team that has to be taken serious this year and in the following seasons to come. Their athletics programs in general are definitely on the up and up.
The returning leading scorer, rebounder and assist man is 6’3″ junior point guard Liam Caswell. He stood just 5’10” as a sophomore, averaging 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He has now as aforementioned shot up to 6’3” inches tall while retaining the skills that enabled him to be a productive all around point guard as a sophomore. You should expect this highly underrated player to improve on his sophomore success and take a bigger leadership role as a much taller and athletic junior point guard.
6’0” senior guard Matteus Gilbert is recovered from an injury that had him sidelined the majority of his junior season and should provide a strong scoring punch. Just 2 seasons ago as a sophomore he averaged 13 points and 4 rebounds per game. Alongside Gilbert and Caswell, 5’6” junior guards Darvin Contreras and Mac Kalna provide consistent 3 point shooting threats and 6’1” forward Carson O’neal will provide hustle and toughness. Look for them to score a ton of points if they run an up-tempo offense.
Ocracoke plays in a strong Coastal 10 1A conference that currently has Plymouth HS, Gates County, Perquimans HS and Camden County in competition.
