Head Coach: Mark Harnly
Conference: Coastal 10 1A
Last Season: 21-9 (14-4 in conference)
Outlook: Despite losing 6 seniors and the bulk of their interior to graduation, Camden County should still be expected to finish at or near the top of their conference. Two of the main reasons are 5’10” sharpshooting point guard Zach Robeson (2017) and 6’1” do everything guard JR Williams (2018).
In the previous season, Zach Robeson led the team in scoring with 18.8 points per game while draining 100 3’s in total. That’s not a typo. He can put the ball on the floor, get to the cup, has improving court vision and already is a dead-eye shooter. One he gets rolling, he piles on tons of points in a hurry from downtown. Should get plenty of D2 and D3 looks this season.
JR Williams, an athletic guard did a little of everything as a sophomore, averaging 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Having a dynamic duo such as Roberson and Williams combined with the experience of several senior guards and junior varsity call-ups from an 11-5 team, don’t be surprised in the least to see Camden put it all together and possibly challenge for a conference title.
Coach Mark Harnly has proven time and time again to be an excellent strategist and can always find a way to put his team in a position to win basketball games, whether they are really small or have good size. Over the summer in team camps, he had his guys competing hard on every possession and challenging teams that appeared to be much better on paper.
Camden plays in a strong Coastal 10 1A conference that currently has Plymouth HS, Ocracoke, Perquimans HS and Gates County in competition.
